She Is Cold

She Is Cold

by Laura Summerville Reed

Everything about her is cold

Top to bottom

From the crown of her head

to the tips of her toes

Fingers and lips and knees and elbows

To the end of her adorable, freckled nose

All about her is cold

Frozen

Icy

And cold

Save only her beating heart

That's so warm

....And black as coal

But it burns

Oh baby, it burns

I can feel the frost emanating from this freckled beauty. I see the cold fog falling away from her, and yet and I cannot turn away. Is it the freckled nose that draws me in? Yes, but it's also the allure of the black heart burning within this ice queen. Can anyone die from frostbite? I'm hankering to find out....

Thank you, my dear Augustine. You know how I value your opinion and so appreciate your comments. Always and only encouragement. You support my vices with the most charming ease. ~ Laura

I loved this one...the freckled nose and the burning heart. I really think you should have linked the Rolling Stones' "She's So Cold" to this one...I would come back just to see the two together! ~WB

Yes, it burns. So good to know. A fiery furnace of burning Love, this Heart. Great Poem!
