She'd rather dance with lions....

All the while they smile and look
down at me for trying
She'd now rather dance with them
ah the knot's finally untying

That's okay though there's a surprise storm
coming onto the plains
Her golden hair is beautiful though
yet not the same as their manes

She'll learn that in time ...though
it could take her years
I'll beg my leaving now love
remember me through the years

And when the zoo closes down and
all's quiet in the jungle that you know
I won't be there to save you
backwards is a place that I don't go

The neon lights are all gone the
empty bottles lie silent and eerie
Do you know hear an echo of my voice
or is it just the wind my deary

You begged to go dance with the lions and they
chose to ignore the rules
You called me the loser once I guess
now you're the fools

Thank you ahb for the trickle of tears this morning as I drink my 1st cup of coffee. I don't mean that at all in a negative sense; it's a positive and hopeful one, at least to me. The meaning is sorrowful yet victorious-I love that.

Your writing is stunning as usual, as your use of this metaphor took me in thoroughly. I won't go on about how I 'voted' this piece; suffice it to say that I saved it on my computer so I can read it again and again.

Thank you dear friend,

Laurel

Hey Girl, Nice to see that beautiful smile Laurel ! You've always had a way to make me feel like a writer rather than a scribbler ! Thank you for that ! Sorrowful yet victorious , that's us isn't it ! Hugs from Ed!
