She Comes (poem)

Here in the quiet of another day

It comes to me this echo of some past

Insistent shadow meaning meant to last

This something that a boy just threw away

-

She comes to claim the emptiness of time

This faceless figure hidden by my tears

Whose faithful heart has learned to conjure years

A song so sweet reminder of the crime

-

And there I sit a captive of my pain

As she recalls the kisses and the smile

Yes we were truly happy for awhile

Till so unclear would start this strange refrain

-

And though it hurts I’m glad she’s here with me

That like that boy this man will never be
