Stones on the water...... verse

Morning is here
moments are moving slowly
the river before me
seems restless too
what to do or feel in this new world
of adolescence
Pick up a stone and let the child within
decide for both of us
a flat obsidian or some such stone
in hand is cast

One hit two, three and the stone drops
from my view beneath the calming
I search for a new stone flatter, thinner ,
larger , faster
Casting it harder with more force
and it touches once , twice , three times
six ,seven and eight
amazed I watch as the path becomes longer
this dotted dashed line
of splashes like days of a life
connected until I grow older

And now an older man I still wander
and wonder too
by the rivers edge , by the stones
where did they all go so
quickly ?
And then I remember
or I will forget
The days like so many stones
splashing across the surface of life
in longer and longer patterns some
curving or aligning straight out
until they too sink quietly
into the depths of time unknown
never to be seen again
from river to river
from stone to stone to stone
to the water again
into eternity

Man I love your art. I reckon that there are people who have never skipped a stone and thought about it deeply. How sad. I promise you that all my children have, with and without me. My elder son and I compete to see who can skip the roundest most rough rock. Interesting that no matter what bond is formed between the rock and the thrower the rock just sinks out of view to be gone forever.

Great poem. Very visual with the photo. I never skipped stones. But very poetic and moving nonetheless.
