Nature is always the soother of an open soul, to be within it, a part of it; the quelling of fear and the calming of a mind in need of balance.

Snap

Snap, twig underfoot,

the crunch of dried autumn leaves,

rolled by the sole of each foot,

slow steps, gentle but definite,

sky open, blue rich and deep,

heavens reflection,

and the canopy of trees above,

twisted vines creeping,

under speckled light filtered,

rays fine like cotton off the spindle,

strung, a thousand beams downward, spotting,

the moist undergrowth.

Birds ruffle plumage,

as if to stretch,

dusting off the evening slumber,

waking with the sun,

throat opening to a morning song,

a celebration of another day,

below, rustling,

lives unfolding,

in shadow,

in bushes and grasses,

movement constant,

in an endless hum of life.

What I see is a cacophony of sound,

two senses melding,

bright, vibrant life,

squirming, crawling, nestling,

and me on foot within it,

passing ever so slowly,

so not to disturb,

not to hush a moment,

a single snippet of time.

Trees exploding,

branches yearning,

leaves rustling in the breeze,

tempting the sway of movement,

together like waves,

green fingers, rolling,

tossed by a silent invisible force,

and I within it, in awe,

of just another day.

Your description of how it feels and the many things going on when you walk softly though the woods is simply beautiful. I found myself experiencing the rustle of the trees, the soft crunch of the leaves under my feet, the bird singing.... I was transfomed....the true mark of a great writer. Thanks!

Near perfection, so many wonderful lines. My favorite? " . . . throat opening to a morning song." You have given us a personal glimpse into a rare moment of melding with nature. Beautifully executed writing. Voted up and awesome.
