Soldier- Poem by Rebecca Wood
Soldier
I put myself in any woman's shoes that have ever lost a loved one by the hands of war. I found myself to more angry than sad. I know that our soldiers are great people and it's good to stand up for what you believe in, but war is not. War has somehow come to be known as a necessity to the balance of this world. Well I'm not buying it. These are the words that came out when I put myself in their shoes. If anyone who is reading this poem has lost someone due to war please feel free to express your feelings on the situation or my outlook.
We were once great lovers
Our hearts held out to eachother
Together we were going to run away
But my heart was ripped from my chest
When the hands of violence took you that day
Those wreched hands of violence carried you overseas
They say you will be a hero, then throw you to your knees
My hand grows cold in which yours no longer lays upon
As the silence grows louder, it drowns out our song
But, No! I am wrong
War only makes you strong
