Song Lyrics - A Better Way To Leave

What did I do
To deserve all that?
Maybe you’re not in love anymore
But did I deserve a slap?

You made me the bad guy
So you could sleep at night
Why didn’t you just leave
And not turn out my light?

There’s got to be a better way
A better way to leave
There’s got to be a better way
Without the tangled web we weave
There’s got to be a better way
A better way to leave

What a way to find out
You sure blew up the bridge
I know what the good book says
But how can I forgive?

He’s treating you like a queen
Even though you don’t deserve it
I’m not mad at him so much
You know how to work it

There’s got to be a better way
A better way to leave
There’s got to be a better way
Without the tangled web we weave
There’s got to be a better way
A better way to leave

I won’t give you the pleasure
Of proving yourself right
You’re gonna’ have to wonder
Why I don’t stalk you at night

He said I must not have loved you
‘Cause I didn’t try to get you back
I had to laugh at that one
One day he’ll watch you pack

This is such a deep emotion of loss. I think you may be better off and you deserve so much more than what was done to you. I am sorry that there are people like that and you had to experience it. I voted up! It is a beautiful poem! and so right on! :) Wishing you many blessings and the *right one*! :)

@Jo - It's autobiographical but also just me wondering about how messy it can be when people break up. Thank you for commenting and I appreciate the good wishes!

@Stigma - Thank you! That's true... you have to be careful but then if you are too careful you'll be "too alone..."
