Song Lyrics - He Could Not Be Free

A baby was born
Not knowing his people
Or that his path had been decided
When he realized the truth
Of his color and his world
He knew the struggles he would bear

He could not be free
Without knowing what he could be

He read the words
And saw the pictures
Of long ago dreamers and haters
Wondering if it all could be real
And what he should do
As one boy born into his past

He could not be free
Without understanding what he could be

He sang a song
And it was heard
By someone who did not know
He wrote the words
That made her smile
Until she saw what it is that he was

He could not be free
Without realizing what he could be

As the anthem was sung
He held his heart
While his people continued to cry
He wanted one thing
Just to be a man
And we would know that he was

He could not be free
Without giving away what he could be

The baby lost his friends
When they would no longer play
Because someone made the decision
He died by their hand
Because he wanted to play
With those who were taught to hate him

He could not be free
Without dying for something he could not be

@PenMePretty - Sorry for the delay in responding. I appreciate you reading all my stuff. I grew up in the South and every now and then I think about those days in the 60's when children used the "n-word." Sad...

@Eiddwen - Thank you very much. This one is kind of intense but I like to write about this topic so we don't forget there is still work to be done.

@LeslieAdrienne - Thank you very much. You said something about my comments on the chat forum and to respond to that I just don't like the one-sided nature of many on these arguments about God. That one guy clearly is an obsessive.
