Song Lyrics - Just Because We Kissed

I think I love them all
Each and every one
I can’t remember who was mad
I just remember the fun

They all touched my life
But now they’re gone
They passed through my hands
Like dew that dries after dawn

How can I hold a grudge
Against a girl I touched
A girl I held
A girl I missed
How can I hold a grudge
When I’d take you back
Just because we kissed

You never forget a girl
Once you’ve closed your eyes
You always remember
The way she sighs

They don’t give themselves away
But you love it when they do
You will always think of her
Even if she was untrue

How can I hold a grudge
Against a girl I touched
A girl I held
A girl I missed
How can I hold a grudge
When I’d take you back
Just because we kissed

How can I not want
The moments that we shared
When you were all I wanted
When I knew you still cared

I was about to log off but then I saw your song. Beautiful and evocative. It's midnight here, you might be enjoying perhaps a beautiful day out there.

I've rarely encountered another man that still esteems the women in his past. This has always been my sentiment. The norm is hate or resentment. Regardless of how the relationships ended, these women have shared something very special with us and, as you say, have touched our life. I choose to remember that and move past the rest as quickly as possible.

Your lyrics do a wonderful job of expressing this. I only hope more men will take heed to what you are saying. Thanks for sharing.

@Vinaya - Well I'm glad you saw this poem before you went to sleep. It is a beautiful day here in Austin because we have finally broken the long stretch of 100 degree days that we endured over the summer. Thank you for your comment.

@Poetic Fool - I don't hate anyone; I have felt that before but I don't feel I am a person who holds grudges and I do remember the good times. Everyone has something inside of them that can create a spark in another but sometimes you meet them at the wrong time of your life; or theirs. You have to understand that your own personality can provoke good and bad in others and not necessarily lay the blame of failure at their feet. I am still struggling with this notion at times though. In the end I still am a romantic and I'm glad for the experiences I've had in my life. All of them.

I loved this! It was rhythmic and enchanting. Up until a few years back I never accepted men as people with real feelings. I just stuck to the male vs. female stereotype. This is what going to an all girls high school does to you. The point is that with all our differences, we're just the same. The song could've been written from a girl's point of view too.

So what genre of music would you put to this one?

I can hear a piano playing in the background...

@Majadez - Hey... thanks for commenting. Like everything I write I have a special feeling for this one because it kind of hit me the other day that my love life has been good. Not in a bragging sort of way but in the experience of love and life with another. As for men and feelings, yes we do have them but they are shown differently than women. I knew a black woman once who told me if I ever saw her crying it meant she was mad (unless somebody had died). She said she didn't know why the tears came out but you better look out if the tears were flowing. A man wouldn't necessarily cry; he would yell or strike with his fist. It's probably the way we are raised; but showing emotion and feeling it are different things and men feel everything you do. Everything.

I can hear a piano too which helps because I play piano but also a little acoustic guitar (just chords)... I am going through an early 60's renaissance of sorts (1964-65 - The Byrds; The Beatles) and I can hear that style in there...

SP, you outdid yourself! -- is that possible?? I'm hearing a piano, bass, and an occasional mournful sax. Hey, this is fun--maybe we can do this with all your songs from now on! Love it.

Nah, I've got my slots, but one of 'em isn't this kind of writing! But it breathes life into my heart and soul, so I truly appreciate it.
