Song Lyrics - MTV Killed The Video Star

Source

My friend Passion2010 (from Hubpages) suggested this title to me and asked if I could come up with some lyrics. I thought it was a clever idea on what happened to the old MTV as we once knew it. So here it is...

You are too young to remember eighty-three
I ran so far to escape reality
Hot red skies before dawn shining down me

Oh-a oh

They took our dream and gave us something real
Dance hall nights in the round they decided to repeal
Having fun for girls was something to conceal

Oh-a oh

I met your parents

Oh-a oh

What did they tell me?

MTV killed the video star
MTV killed the video star

Reality came and broke my heart

Oh-a-a-a oh

And now they audition some Billie and a Jean
Who pretend they are not as fake as they would seem
Girls on reels save a prayer for their morning TV dream

Oh-a oh

I was the lost one

Oh-a oh

You were the found one

MTV killed the video star
MTV killed the video star
In your mind there are no stars
It’s about you and they’ve gone too far

Oh-a-aho oh,
Oh-a-aho oh

MTV killed the video star
MTV killed the video star

In your mind there are no stars
It’s about you and they’ve gone too far
Reality came and we can’t go back
Reality came and that’s who they are

I am a video star
I am a video star

MTV killed the video star
MTV killed the video star
MTV killed the video star
MTV killed the video star

MTV killed the video star (I am a video star)

Clever. It's an appropriate title since the very first video ever aired on MTV was "Video Killed the Radio Star".

@Robwrite - well that's exactly right. This is a take-off on that song with references to many of the early video hits...

Great hub....it takes one back in time....very humorous and interesting....now you just need to make a video and put it on You Tube...make sure you get those glasses from the original video...lol

@Cogerson - That would be cool... I actually saw Trevor Horn and Geoffrey Downs of The Buggles in concert back around 1980 with Yes. John Anderson and Rick Wakeman left the band for a bit and the remaining memebers of Yes (Howe, Squire and White) picked them up for an album and a tour. I had no idea of the song "Video Killed The Radio Star" at that time...
