Song Lyrics - You're In Here Too

They say you can’t find love in a bar
You can look but you won’t get very far
They say you can’t love in a bar
But then why don’t you tell me
Why are you in here too?

They say nothing’s there but heartache
Everyone’s drinking and being fake
They say nothing’s there but heartache
But then why don’t you tell me
Why are you in here too?

Don’t assume I’m no good
Just because I have a drink in my hand
You told yourself you never would
But it’s Friday night and here you stand
So don’t tell me I’m no good
‘Cause you’re in here too

They say we’re all just losers
Heartbreakers and emotional abusers
They say we’ll all just losers
But then why don’t you tell me
Why are you in here too?

Yeah we’re the walking wounded
Hand me down hearts drowning our sorrow
Trying to connect with another stranger
But leaving alone ‘cause we’re unable

Don’t assume I’m no good
Just because I have a drink in my hand
You told yourself you never would
But it’s Friday night and here you stand
So don’t tell me I’m no good
‘Cause you’re in here too
Yeah… you’re in here too
Just like me baby
Just like me

It's expressive. Almost sounds like song lyrics.

Nellieanna is right...I can hear the guitar, strumming in the background, and the notes are almost there...

Very nice!

@Nellieanna - Thanks. It is a song without music. I'm an aspiring lyricist in addition to writing prose. I'm hoping some crack (not a musician on crack) will want to work with me...

@Genna - Thank you. I'm hearing the guitar too in my mind... hopefully something will come of this...

I had a moment when a stranger had me in his arms, and his hands fell to my lower back and he hovered over my lips... And I wanted the moment, to forget myself even... but I didn't know who he was... So I couldn't, I wouldn't forget myself. In fantasy he could have been like me, and we could have had a brief time together in darkness... but.. he was not likely just like me. So I left, you know there is someone out there like you but you can't know who. We all understand this, to see so many bodies dancing and laughing and dismiss, yet we're there too. But we all know, a bar is a very unlikely place to find someone, but not impossible. :) Nice Poet!

@Marina - I'm glad you didn't succumb to temptation! A little liquor and an attractive person can do that to you though... this whole thing is really a "don't judge me or assume anything negative about me" kind of song. But to be honest it seemed like every phone number I walked away with was accompanied by lot's of problems...

Haha, for sure! I go to have a drink with friends and catch up, but mostly to dance! I like this piece, but I think people looking to hook up at a bar, ... surely there are better ideas? :P But yes, I try not to make assumptions. You know, I don't like how much it's a meat market out there, can't we just dance? Can't a guy dance and not try to suck your face! hehe :P I've navigated well though and I've only ever kissed the one guy, my current boyfriend for four years now. And I'm glad, back when things weren't so good that I didn't give in either! Nice work Poet, you choose your topics well as always. :) I wish when I go dancing I could wear some kind of colored wrist band that automatically told guys 'not interested' because I just want to dance and have fun.

"Can't a guy dance and not try to suck your face?"

No......

"Why?"

Because......

Your boyfriend must be pretty happy to know you have been so devoted to him... you don't hear much of that....

Marina Lester 5 years ago

Thanks, I just realized how I made that sound, I mean, I was in that man's arms BEFORE my boyfriend, I hadn't met him yet and my life was in some turmoil. But I'm glad I waited and gave my first and only kiss to him (my boyfriend). Yes, he can trust me and he knows he can, and I never thought I could, but I trust him completely too. Haha, 'no' and 'because' eh? Anyway take care, I hope loyalty isn't THAT rare :P Nice talking, nice writing, you're pretty cool. :D

I figured it was before him or maybe during a break-up... you don't have to explain anything to me.... 'No' and 'Because' are the best I can do... men see... men want....

You too on the cool part....

Nice song Suburban Poet. Its gotta be country, but I love country. It reminds me of the song "I love this bar" Another great one!

You'll be really good at it, if and when you find the musician collaborator. Some of the world's best music is the product of great teams. And I could boast that I knew you when!

@Erin - thank you. Yes I agree... it has a country feel. I didn't start out thinking of a particular musical genre but when I was done I thought "there's a country song and now where's one of them boys with the hat on to sing this thing?"

@Nelllieanna - Well I can boast that I know you now!

@Mentalist - The night air begins with hope but as you try to grope they take your cash and once again you realize your fantasy has become a cold splash....

Yeah...I like it. I'm a crack musician but my son is better. Maybe he can make this song into a big hit for you! He is the screamer in the picture on my hub about why girls like bad boys. Keep 'em coming Poet ;)
