Starry Nights....

Source

I

I choke to think

the stars will fade

when lost and cold

I lose my faith,

a slender thread

connects me still

to starry nights

and moon's embrace,

soon I'll be gone without a trace.

Death

and life.

The universe a guide to

our cosmic dust.

The earth a map to

our heart.

III

'Rage against the

dying of the light'.

Dylan Thomas got

it right before the

night silenced him to stone.

Light inside the night

with right thoughts

of starlight immemorial

enduring space and time

cold flight no measure

of years can comprehend

the vastness of the

light's path to your

heart yet each night

reaching you marking

the dark with

specks of hope opening

the place in the

soul that's too

blind to see in

daylight only reaching

from some dark place

or state of mind --

senses sharpen sounds

larger in the dark

daylight.

IV

The time of year

for sitting here

pondering death

with every breath.

I saw that whiteness

in the moon's full

brightness.

Thank you Robin Skelton!

What a great poem to bring me back to almost a year ago when we both had a few great poems to share. Jamie

Aw my kindred spirit Sir Vincent Van Gogh. A starry starry night indeed. Dark meeting light and light surrendering to darkness. You captured the shooting stars that shine for all to see and then fizzle like a sparklers ending spark. Give me death or give me life, but please don't let me go without a good fight. Brilliant piece my friend,I voted UP and all buttons pressed but funny.

Profound, mystical, dark, and creative. A caldron of Van Gogh, Dylan Thomas, Robin Skelton and our talented snakeslane. Your added splash of photography and inspired print are collaborative garnish.

aww, thank you Mhatter, Robin Skelton was a gifted poet who inspired others. I actually took his publishing class which had nothing to do with poetry, but I read some of his work later. Wrestling the Angel has a beautiful poem about the moon.

Hi Snakeslane....amazing depth in your words, Snakeslane...a little bewilderment, too...but, oh so wise and contemplative. I really like your style UP Awesome Beautiful and Interesting...there should be a "I relate (to this.)..' button, too.

snakeslane profile image

snakeslane 4 years ago from Canada Author

A "I can relate to this" button, what a good idea Lucky Cats. You could suggest that in the forums...I am thrilled you could relate, and really want to thank you for all the visits today, it's been so rewarding for me to read your comments.

Read your comment on arb's The Journey - Chapter 16 (I was chapter 12) and decided to find out more about you. Interesting profile page. I have a copy of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" on the wall in my guest bedroom. It is one of my favorites by Van Gogh and I like it a great deal. I feel similarly about your poem.

I love this phrase - "marking the dark with specks of hope opening the place in the soul that's too blind to see in daylight" quite wonderful. I look forward to reading more. :)

I have that painting (Starry Night) by Vincent Van Gogh. Although, it's a printed copy I bought from Italy, I am taking care of it since, I cannot own the original due to its cost.

And the poem of yours. It stirred my imagination of a dream I want to fulfill someday. ...:)

Snakeslane, I have just read this again and, I have to say; your beautiful way with words is stunning. Magical! the images, the wonder and the wide open, endlessness of the possibilities you suggest....wondrous! Very very good. I see, too, that Vicent Moore has read this. Honestly, as I scrolled down to leave this comment; I noted that his name is among your commentors....I was going to suggest that you look him up on HP...and, by exchange, that he'd read your work..the feelings your words inspire are much like the feelings he stirs in me; and, I have no doubt; others as well. Just beautiful, Snakeslane!

Jackie Lynnley profile image

Yep that was the one I wrote about, how he sang about this man but the beauty I saw was in the singer and the song; Starry Starry Night. One of those songs you never get tired of.
