Surviving the Blade

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

What is true reverberates within my soul,

often tempered by my will to refute,

the compulsion to be blind,

within the soft numbing clouds of denial.

When truth tugs at my sleave,

I shudder, knowing pain will follow,

revelation as sharp as a honed blade,

the blood-letting often violent and telling.

The harshness of truth makes me ill,

weak and disappointed,

the pain of others and the ill-intent they deliver,

seizes my soul and I ache for a loving hand.

I cannot betray myself, let anger take flight,

but I yearn for peace, compassion,

where much of what I see is violent fear,

and the lost hearts of good souls.

In strength I find myself aloof,

parted from the world that is mine,

sheltering from the hurt,

rather than restoring it to love.

Yet I know I must,

face my own fears to greet life,

and for my soul to take flight,

to mirror the freedom at our core.

I must survive the blade,

for it is merely metal,

and love is eternal,

and I a reflection of potential.

I really like your fluency when writing. At first, I thought that this was going to be a sad hub in contradiction with its title. But the ending really rejoiced me as I love "happy endings" of any kind!
