Bottles

I’m right here now.

The words I write in poems

Retrace by voyage here

Through inlets making

Mockery of maps,

Whirlpools changing course,

Twinkling streams

And placid ponds for rest,

Exciting rapids racing.

All - in pages, pressed.

Where I am just now

Is where I need to be

To see the way to go.

I don’t look back,

I can't look back!

So I stuff it into bottles

To float to shore someday!

Islands in the tropics

Hope becomes

Chasing winter’s cold away,

Dispelling fear

Compelling cheer

In rainbows of the mind,

Converting tears to joy

And years

To moments of eternity.

I've read most of your hubs :) But I think this is the first one I've actually commented on lol. BUt again I state "very beautiful!"

SilverGenes 6 years ago

This is lovely! It's like a holiday away from any stress or strain. Your artwork fits beautifully with the mood throughout - not soft at all but like the sea you described, vast, gentle, strong and of its own. Soft Regrets is one with which I can fully identify! Your last poem is how I feel when I read your work.

I will be back to reread and comment further. It is impossible to give it justice on one reading. There is just so much here! I feel as if I could float away - sublime!

Hi, this was beautiful, I read each one and said it was my favourite, but then I read it again! and still can't decide. but the one that sticks in my mind is 'Twist a rainbow round the day' fantastic. nell

gqgirl - And I deeply appreciate your commenting, especially for retuning to re-emphasize it! That is special!!

Thank you!

Alexandra - Thank you! I'm blushing a bit. I originally wrote it with 'cringe' as the final word but in a rare revision (I seldom revise -because I feel it's another poem, then - lol). But somewhere along the way I'd decided on 'gasp', because it said the feeling but with less percussion and more harmony.

But I suppose it was still unchanged in my mind when I typed it, unchanged.

Anyway - I just changed it back to 'gasp'. Besides, cringing would only make wrinkles! A gal's gotta be practical, too!

I write of the sea as I would of another planet, almost, since I have so little actual experience of or with it. But it's surprising how much poetry I've written with references to it, and I really thought and in writing it, I've felt it as if I knew what I was writing about! Maybe I was a mermaid in another life. :-)

I truly appreciate your heart-felt words!! Hope you do return to read more. I used to have to return to & read the poems to be sure "I" truly still really existed.

Nell- thank you. And 'Twist a rainbow 'round the day is one of my favorites I've ever written. It has a lot of meaning. I sometimes title it 'Tao'' but then that seems presumptuous of me. But it does refer to some of its ideas.

These are incredibly beautiful poems and paintings. I love the "talisman" poem best, if I have to choose. But actually, no, I don't have to choose because in your generosity you have shared them all! Thank you. You are one very special lady!

Love and peace

Tony

PS - love your new profile pic!

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 6 years ago from TEXAS Author

hello, hello - what a special compliment, though I can't really claim mastery. And of course I try to expose some of the better efforts. Most have not been widely shared though I've been prolific enough to have many from which to choose to share.

I've written it at least since I was 12 & I still do, but most of were concentrated in one decade when I wrote several each day. They served as a journal, actually, with varying actual poetic value.

I really appreciate that you enjoyed these! Thank you!

Nellieanna profile image

Nellieanna 6 years ago from TEXAS Author

Thank you, Tony. It's amazing how vivid my instant mental pictures of just when and under what circumstances I wrote each of the poems. Talisman expressed a brave sense of being and knowing who I am, no matter what, when it could have been lost. Glad you enjoyed it.

From my perspective they're all just different facets of the unfolding life going on so each has its own value. And many hold true beyond their own time-frame.

Thank you for those very pleasant compliments! When my hair is acting nicely, I try to snap a picture since I never know how much longer there will be any more decent shots! LOL! So far, haven't found the 'expiration date' printed anywhere, but regular challenges are unrelenting.

Sure enough, since that picture last Wednesday, my mop is busy responding to heat & humidity.

It's time to begin the summer yard watering task which I did. Just heard that our rainfall is far below the averages, which aren't exactly rain-forest levels at best! In June we can usually hope for 5 inches but this June we've only received about 1/4th of an inch & with much higher temperatures than avereage. Ack! In fact, for a year, we'd normally have had about 12 inches so far, but it's been only about 5" so far for 2010! Other parts of the state are faring better, but this is where I live! Looks like I'll be watering the yard till October or so. But the worst case would be water rationing! It could happen.

Thank you again!! I appreciate it!

Its safe to make no comments on poems as I have absolutely no knowledge of them but art work I can see and thats great. Thanks for sharing Mam.

I fully understand! If you offered me a poem in Hindi or Urdu, even if I were familiar with the languages, for me to fully understand anything as subtle as poetry in another language would be beyond me, as well.

Also my poetry was written simply to express the feelings and ideas I had when they were penned. It's amazing that others do key into them, really, although I like to think that some of mine are fairly straight-forward, so if you did decide to tackle any of them, don't be shy. As they say, "nothing ventured, nothing gained."

But know that it is quite OK if you prefer to not bother with it! In a way peoms are art works, but painted by words, which are much more symbolic of what they represent, and therefore less easily translated by one's brain!

And even folks who speak English as their native language have difficulty doing so at times!!

Thank you always for coming and commenting from your kind heart, Suny!

On the wings of the fragrance of a lily, a note fell into my lap, embroidered with extraordinary pictures and delicate words. I ran off to a quite chamber in my heart, and drank the words. I looked down and saw a yellow stain on my shirt. I was exhaulted with joy.

Nellieanna, you are most dear to me. Thank you for the gift.

Nellieanna, your poetry is like a fresh, gentle, lavender smelling intoxicating potent to my soul. I devour each word written, I can feel your heart beating as you write. Take Merlin's offer and put all of your wonderful poetry in a book, to be appreciated by the world. Add it to your Legacy of talents. Your art is precious and blends so well with your rhyme. Multi-talented gifted writer you are my friend, don't hold back keep it coming and let if flow like the rushing river over the rocks and let the misty spray evaporate into our souls. Thank you again for sharing these gifts, I especially loved the following verse.

I don’t look back,

I can't look back!

So I stuff it into bottles

To float to shore someday!

Nell, you have floated your bottles into our hearts and souls, let us continue to delight in pulling them from the glass to enjoy forever. I rate this a HUGE UP

Now, Ken - You've done it. (And I'd just put on makeup and mascara, too.) You made my eyes tear up, that was so sweet - all of it but especially about the bottles floating into your hearts and souls. I truly appreciate your appreciation and recognize its honesty and perceptivity. Those mean the world to me!!

"I lose a line now and then,of poetry I almost wrote and

songs I almost sang"

and like a bamboo swaying in the wind

To life's ebb and flow you have learn"to sip and savour" each moments flavour.

The mood of the poem a reflection of the bamboo painting and the artist.

Soft, gentle yet bold and without hesitation.I Love it.
