Poem: Sweet Melody

There's something about those old fashioned love songs- the scratchy musical excursions of old vinyl LPs- that has a unique melody. The likes of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong, crooning gently in our ears that makes our hearts melt.

So imagine if you would, two lost souls that finally manage to get back together, a gentle reluctant touch at first, a hesitant peck and then an almighty hug.

Imagine, then, the scratchy sounds of an old fashioned love song, the voice, the tune, the melody...

Imagine a shy dance on orange and red leaves... as the sun dips with a golden glow ...

Sweet Melody

Pen me an old fashioned love song

Then sing me the sweet melody

Take my hands

And make me dance

For this may be

Our only chance...

Where were you all these days

Why did we part our ways

Did you listen to what your heart says

Do I still make your pulse and mind race?

Stay close and kiss me slow and long

Let my body melt in your arms

Hold my face

Look in my eyes

Warm your cheeks

With my sighs

Fall I did, never wondered why

Winters that froze like the lie

Summers that went slowly by

Springs that brought tears to my eye

Knit your fingers in my hand

Sit by my side on the sand

Lean on me

And share my glee

Rise and fall

Like the waves in sea

Fate did listen to my plea

Hope rests like a hand on my knee

Now I see you see me

I see how us become we

Sing me an old fashioned love song

Bring me a sweet melody

Take my hands

And make me dance

For this may be

Our only chance...

For this may be

Our only chance...

(fade away)....

Everybody has a song or two that he or she shares with "one significant other" one of these is Ella and Louis Singing "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off" and Ella or Billie Holday singing "Every Time We Say Goodbye"...

Great hub, Docmo, but bad timing!

Mohan-I always love your poetry and this poem is no exception! Touching-brought a tear to my eye.

Funny-today, while driving the back roads of North Carolina from Raleigh Airport I was thinking of how many country 'love songs' I enjoy. Planning on doing a hub about them at some point.

Thank you for sharing.

Isn't it amazing how different we all are, yet so much the same? You captured the essence of powerful memories, keeping them forever sacred with your association with a particular song. And, that song will forever remind you and her of the powerful emotions that link you together through all time. Gorgeously hits the mark with anyone who has ever been in love, Docmo.

..this is a work of art my friend - but then again - all of your fine hubs are - and yes you have influenced my writing (at times) because I perceive you to be such an incurable romantic and a complete gentleman - and that is something for another 'man' to look up to .......

@Epi- you flatter this humble writer of influencing your writing. Thanks for your kind words. I am indeed, an incurable Romantic. Of this ailment, I hope they never find a cure. You are a gentleman, Sir.

@Acaetnna- Thank you for your comment. I am glad you liked the accompanying songs.

I was so caught up in your words that I forgot to keep breathing! You have taught me the meaning of breathtaking. What a beautiful picture you paint of a timeless connection of two souls in love.

I am so glad you included that intro. I adore the sounds of those sctachy records. Something about that quiet crackling is comforting.

As usual, very well done.
