Sweet Memories of You

Time has flown

like birds taking wing

I know that soon

autumn will bring back memories

of different times

the many tears that have been cried

when you went away

as the autumn leaves

began to fall

leaving behind thoughts

of warm summer smiles

and the tangy taste

of the sea spray upon the air

time has passed

and I still long for you

I wonder why life

is sometimes cruel

we were still laughing

enjoying life

then so suddenly you were gone

and I couldn’t find my way

back to your love

now I look toward the heavens

to see the brightest stars

I know you are there gazing down on me

someday all of the pain and heartache

will be gone

in the dead of winter

when those silver snowflakes fall

even though behind me

only one set of footprints will be

I’ll be seeing two sets in my mind

and remembering the snowball fights

I listen to music playing

and see you and me

dancing by candlelight

and when the flame begins to flicker

I’ll still have you by my side

and we’ll meet up yonder

beyond the stars

where we’ll continue our dance

till then I’ll keep you in my heart

till then my memories will shine

as I gaze at the photos

of you and me

together and smiling

through the years

When we lose people we love, and that certain time of the year comes around to remind us, it's bittersweet. You have lovely memories, and this is a lovely poem. :)

I interpret this poem as an ode to a love who has passed, rather than one who was lost. I like the image that leaves in my mind.

They never fade away Michael.

It is always sad when someone leaves us but wonderful to have the closeness and the memories Shauna.
