THAT'S LIFE...THAT'S LIFE By b. Malin

Life according to me...

They say "Birds of a feather flock together"...How about us people? Do we in turn pick our Friends, or Lovers, or Husbands, or Wives by our own mirror imagines? God, I hope not, and yet, I know we've all seen people who seem to look alike. For example, husbands and wives as they get older. And of course we've all seen dogs and their owners who have an erie resemblance. I personally think Cats would be a little creepy if they did. Although mannerisms are a different story...My father, may he rest in peace, and my Cat George, (GEORGE THE WHORE CAT, for those that remember my hub on him) may he rest in peace...Both had one funny eye, and they both growled when they walked!

And Life, what's that all about? We live it, we go through it...some of us in deep fog, never looking up, never smelling the roses...while others take it all in. Are they the "lucky ones"? Who are you? Who am I?

The other day, Lover Man and I are walking along the boat path looking at all the beautiful Yachts. It's been COLD here in Florida Land, so we are bundled up. We both notice at the same time, a lone "Pelican" sitting on a wood post that is sticking out of the water. We study him as he studies us...the three of us are silent. Lover Man says, "I wish I had my Camera"...I'm thinking the same...The Pelican, stretches, looks around and then goes back to his sitting position. I'm wondering if he had a date, and she stood him up, or if he's waiting in the wrong Marina...If he's anything like our Men when it comes to directions...I'm just saying.

We've taken up "Bike Riding" and feel the need to explore the land, which we have done so locally. Everyone said, "get a "Hitch" for your car, then you can go ANYWHERE, think of the possibilities", and so we did. One of Life's little expenses became the "Hitch" for the car, and the "lightweight aluminum bike rack for two"...Almost $1,000. later we are set. It's a sight to see, Lover Man attaching the bike rack to the hitch. And then the bikes. i've learned from past "projects" not to be ANYWHERE near him until the task is complete. Of course what goes on must eventually come off...So once again I repeat NOT to be ANYWHERE near him during this procedure...LIFE has taught me that!

A friend suggested we try the "bike trails" at a park, not to far away by car. Wow, something new to try, we were game, we were exciting...However, as in Life, we also found out, we are NOT Bike Trail people...It was NOT FUN...I kept thinking we would pop a tire on the stone trails and some of them were down right CREEPY, and swampy...and really going FAR into the woods... And what if there were some Creepy People waiting to grab our BIKES! Ok, a bit overboard. However the Good part was, as we rode back to civilization, and the car...

While Lover Man was distracted with the bikes... And I was keeping my safe distance from him, I spotted 2 Beautiful Peacocks...Ok, the Male was Beautiful, the female had a Great Personality. But I'll bet she was Beautiful to him... Anyway you could tell they were enjoying Life, running across the road onto some nice green grass. Lover Man did not see them as he was deep in thought, trying to put the bikes back onto the bike rack... each time bringing a NEW Challenging experience to him. "Hey honey, I said, look at the Peacocks". No response, as he turned to me, looking annoyed for I'd DISTRACTED him from the bike rack, and the chore at hand. But then his expression changed as he saw them. Life was giving him a treat to enjoy and make him Smile. "Go get your Camera" i said softly...and for a Change, we'd actually remembered to bring it...And at that moment Life was good!

So what is "Life"?...it's these little moments...which don't cost us a thing, but a little time, and a big Smile.

Nice story about your new life and bike adventures in Florida! Too bad it's cold there.... but not as cold as up here ;-) Maybe to start, biking near the beach will be more fun than a trail? I suppose it depend from your expectations. But with this bike ride you were rewarded by Mr and Mrs Peacock :-) Great pictures! Thank you for sharing your adventures in Florida!

Have a great week!

Beautiful story of what really matters in this life. Thank you for sharing your day with Lover Man : ) I never have my camera, but I do have my cell phone, which I do take most of my pictures with anyway LOL.

You are wise!

Up and more and sharing

Blessings,

I have taken to carrying my camera all the time. I never know what treasure I will see. Enjoy it while you can. My husband is now at the point where they are sending him to physical therapy, because he is having problems walking. We are hoping it will help him and have great hopes for it. The therapist has great enthusiasm and joy in her job. We both enjoy her.

Thank you for taking us with you and being so honest, too. I sure understand that kind of man to walk away and let them have at it, lol. But they are not all bad so we take the bad with the good, that's life.

Enjoyed reading, the little moments makes life a pleasant happy journey. You have expressed it so well - "So what is "Life"?...it's these little moments...which don't cost us a thing, but a little time, and a big Smile". Great hub.

Appreciating the beautiful little moments of life is so important! Your hub is a great reminder of this, b. Malin. It's entertaining and very enjoyable. I love the fact that the hub can apply to our own lives, too!

What a pleasant treat, your adventure was fun to read! Looks like you've settled in and living the good life in Fl. I love to ride my bike and just look at nature, but ' lordy it's cold here. See you the next time you're ' out and about. ' Thank you....

Goes to show you life is what you make it. Your story made me want to buy a bike and start riding again. I wish I hadn't sold our bikes in our last garage sale.

Good story, well written.

Your account and thoughts made me smile :) I find this so true and have learned that many of our most enjoyably memorable experiences are either spontaneous or randomly captured. It's taught me to let go of the reins I'd tightly gripped in my younger years. Thank you for sharing this.

My best,

Cat:)

“If he's anything like our Men when it comes to directions...I'm just saying.” Lol. Oh my goodness, how true is this? My Sosh would rather drive off the edge of the earth rather than ask for directions.

“So what is "Life"?...it's these little moments...which don't cost us a thing, but a little time, and a big Smile.” Barb, your delightful and funny hub did that very thing. Thank you! And you are so right about getting out and enjoying the world, exploring your surroundings, movement by moment. Voted way up and shared. :-)

This was a fun read. It was like taking a little journey with you. I always forget to take a camera with me to capture random moments, and although I have my phone don't always think to use it. Good advice to leave us guys alone when we are trying to do something technical for the first time. Like your writing.

Cute and charming as your stories always are, B. I love the part about staying out of the way while the project is ongoing, except to fetch tools, etc.. Bike trail people. We aren't bike people either. But it does sound interesting, an outdoor nature activity together.

Hi Mar, Writing does bring Inner Peace...as for the move...I'm still getting use to EVERYTHING...the driving...Crazy Drivers...but yes, I'm Enjoying Florida Land, and know we made the right decision.

So glad I could make you Smile. When we warm up (I'm not complaining) I'll send some Florida Sunshine your way!

Hi Breakfastpops, Well...come on, buy a CHEAP bike at Target or Walmart...that's where we went, actually my bike I've had for years..."Recumbent" just doesn't do...Boring! and you're NOT!

Hi Teacher, Thank YOU! "Simple moments" are Wonderful and most times "free" for most of us to Enjoy.

Of course I can never complain about the temperatures here in Florida Land, NOT having lived in NJ...all in fun, all in Fun!

I could so relate to this hub. Was in Florida during the "cold spell" and am always putting my bike on and off my bike rack when I'm in Delaware. Know what you mean about isolated trails-- I stick to paved trails or quiet, low traffic streets now since I bike by myself.

Loved the photo of the pelican and your sense of humor.

Hugs,

Gail

Hi Gail, once again dear friend, thanks for your Wonderful Comments.

We took the bikes on Rack, of course, to "Juno" beach last weekend. It was Great being able to see the Ocean as we rode the bike path. No more trails in the woods for us!
