The Frisco Bar

Smoky-hazed rings surrounds the dim lights

Just another one of those Saturday nights

A crowd that comes from near and far

Saturday night at The Frisco Bar

A swallow of vodka; neat from the glass

Images in the bar mirror, slowly pass

Blue smoke rises from a high-dollar cigar

Saturday night at The Frisco Bar

Babes with eyes like saucers of cream

Drawn into their sensual come-on dreams

Hovering near yet most noticeably far

Saturday night at The Frisco Bar

Dancers on a floor of sawdust-covered wood

Eyes stare at the motions; the music is good

Tip money piling up in an old Mason jar

Saturday night at The Frisco Bar

Love’s lost souls again out on the town

Hoping for love, searching around

Same familiar faces passing by so far

Saturday night at The Frisco Bar

The bar rail lined with twisted hearts

All running scared, missing parts

With yearning needs never met to par

Saturday night at The Frisco Bar

Conversations and dances all repeat

Eyes are searching never to meet

Scan the horizon for that one star

Saturday night at The Frisco Bar

Last call is given; the last tune will play

The last of lost souls now on their way

Back to their own lonely little lair

Saturday night at The Frisco Bar

@sueroy333...Yes, the same old story in the Saturday night singles bar...over, and over, and over! LOL! WB

I can just about feel the smoke in my eyes and hear the clinking of ice cubes in the glass. I was the bartender mixing the drinks and lighting the lady's cigarette for 8 interesting years. And I spent longer than that on the other side of the bar.

If you begin with no expectations you're seldom disappointed.

Good one Wayne.

@Christopher Price...Glad I could come up with the imagery for you...I spent ten years on this side of the bar. It took a few of them to figure out the expectations thing. Once I did, I got pretty bored with it all and settled for a bowl of popcorn and a movie! LOL! Thanks, Chris. WB

@quicklysilver...Funny, I wrote it just about that subject! LOL! For all our differences, our experiences in life are starkly similiar! WB

I'd be that guy in the bar that most of the rowdy folks would like to kick the $#it out of. I have the knack of urinating off republicans, dems, Christians, Atheists, etc. That's why I don't go out much. I can't get beat up on the hubs! Great poem Wayne!

@Micky Dee...Hey Mick! You may have a new concept there...a virtual singles bar! The ass-kicking and the sex is about the same! WB

Simply marvelous! I especially liked this:

"The bar rail lined with twisted hearts

All running scared, missing parts"

As a musician, I spent a whole lotta time in smokey bars. You describe the scene beautifully.

"Babes with eyes like saucers of cream." You rule, Wayne. That is beautiful, original and memorable. Thanks.

@James Watkins....wrote like you lived...from real life experierence. It's reassuring that so many people have same impression of the bar scene...like we all expected more from it. Thanks for the good words! WB

Ok for a one night stand . . . but now I've got to find something more . . .

I also want to "pick your brain" that everything I write sounds like a teacher. I am proud of my calling, but . . . who wants a teacher all the time??

@Truckstop Sally...That's about what most of these places amount...a long relationship of one night stands or "friends with benefits!" I dropped you a note on the other subject. WB
