TORN

I am reluctant~

When you say you are starving~

Me with meager means~

Yet you say you hunger~

What should I do? ~

I pray~

I ask myself what would Jesus do? ~

Than I give~

I am criticized by friends~

I make excuses~

I rationalize~

I pray again~

That you keep things tight~

Were you really deserving? ~

Will I ever know if I did what was right?

I am unable to make a choice~

When you say you are in great need~

Me near the impoverished too~

Yet you claim pitiable~

What should I do? ~

I pray~

I ask myself what would Jesus do? ~

Than I give~

I am chastised by friends~

I make excuses~

I rationalize~

I pray again~

That you keep things tight~

Were you really deserving? ~

Will I ever know if I did what was right?

I am torn~

When you cry those tears~

Me I could be soon penniless too~

Yet I know you are poverty-stricken~

What should I do? ~

I pray~

I ask myself what would Jesus do? ~

Than I give~

I am ridiculed by friends~

I make excuses~

I rationalize~

I pray again~

That you keep things tight~

Were you really deserving? ~

Will I ever know if I did what was right?

extremely moving

beautiful

and this came right after hubby and I were at walmart and a young couple wanted to wash our windows for money

"trailer is broke"

but I saw the open sores on the mans face and the caved in cheekbones on the female

I smelled them

I did not enable

I cannot enable

but a month or so ago hubby and were at the swap meet

and an old gentleman, well dressed, jeans, clean shirt,

and he asked hubby if he could spare some change for an old sailor

hubby, old sailor/seal that he is, pressed a 5 into the gentlemans hand and shook his hand and thanked him for his service

I wouldn't have given that time either

you are the one who is right my dear,

I am the one who is wrong Lisa/there but for the race of God go I.

This poem has me putting quarters back into my pockets of my jeans again, I will go back to the ole hippy gypsy that I was

and it is due to your poem

so thank you

I think you were meant to write this :)

love to you

RNMSN You gave me goose bumps for what you wrote...Thank You...I felt the need to write it...The word torn kept coming up in my mind...I have given or lent money when really I can't afford it(with much critisim from people who care about me), but the need of the reciever seems so much greater than mine...I pray I always do the right thing...I find it doesn't matter the appearance of some one..sometimes the most nicely dressed are also in need...Thank you so much for reading and finding what you needed to find....I think you are a blessing from GOD...

When we feed, shelter, clothe the needy we do the same for our Lord (Matthew 25: 31-40). Never regret giving, God will never let you go without when you give out of love. And if the person is not deserving or is deceitful, that is okay too. Jesus gave His blood when we were undeserving and has never looked back. Your heart is gentle and loving and you are doing the right thing.

Lisa, You are exceptional and through the eyes of an old poet I truly see the the hearts you touched. and responding also to them The Lord said. Let not your left hand know what your right hand doith. Thus the pressing of the five spot RNMSN of your hubby. it is good to give and is not for us to know whether it did good or whether the person spent it on drink or tobacco or worse. The Lord Knoweth and treasures are laid up where rust and thieves cannot corrupt them......Thank You Lisa for the touch of reality and the eyes it opened, in the writing of this poem......Gods Blessings Upon You.....Blake

It is such a difficult thing isn't it? You don't want your family to go without. We are wired to survive. Our society has made it so we rely on money to get by. We forget about God! My father worked 3 jobs to support his large family and still found time to help neighbors and others in the community. Even after my father's death, my mother always trusted in God and we never went without. There was always a roof over our heads and we never hungered. I wore hand-me-downs and may have looked like a ragamuffin but through the grace of God, we always had enough to share.

God bless you for listening to the "HEART" of Jesus and carrying out his plan!

+ Darlene
