Take Flight: A Poem
If my soul could fly,
It would journey until it saw your eyes,
Maybe it would stop in time,
Hit pause and rewind,
To when I was resting in your arms.
But it doesn't have wings,
And your arms may be strong,
But they're so out of reach,
It's as if there's a mountain,
Or a chasm in between.
I close my eyes and picture your face,
Wishing for peace as I'm all alone,
Feeling empty without your embrace,
I whisper your name to the wind,
But it doesn't listen, it doesn't touch, It doesn't love.
If my soul could fly,
The wind would be my friend,
I'd use it to carry me to you,
But it just mocks me with its howls,
A painful utterance louder than the echoes of my hollow heart.
