Take This Cup From Me

Here it is,

In my late December,

And I have prayed,

Since I can remember.

We plead, and can we,

Amend, atone?

Or are we gnawing,

At the same old bone?

God give me light,

So that I might see.

If it should please You,

Take this cup from me.

I’ve walked Your steep,

And crooked path,

Still I wander,

In this world’s wrath.

Rebuild Your temple,

If You see fit,

Or raze it to rubble,

Bit by bit.

Don’t move the rocks,

In front of me.

Will You not take,

This cup from me?

I’m far too weak,

And ask so much,

But is there a heart,

That I can touch?

Leave the weight,

That hinders me,

Leave the chains,

That tether me.

I’ve taken the cold,

That burnt my hands.

I’ve stood the heat,

From desert sands.

And now frigid solitude,

Is all I see.

Will You not take,

This cup from me?

This chasm of loneliness,

Is far too deep,

And now I yearn,

To go to sleep.

Still winter lingers,

In my life’s December,

Will there be another spring,

And will I remember?

Truths are false.

Lies are true.

And on my knees,

I plead with You.

And is it all,

For eternity?

Can peace on Earth,

Ever be?

Is repetition all,

There is to be?

If so Dear God, I pray,

Take this cup from me.

Hello Micky,

This truly touched my heart on so many levels. One... loneliness is so hard but I do know the Father hears all our prayers and I pray he offers comfort during those lulls. I take care of my mom as she goes through chemo, sometimes I feel such heaviness but God somehow gives me the strength and joy to carry on, helping my mom and dad. My dad a Vietnam vet, who still ponders on those days and his fallen brothers. I think of Dusty lately and know he is in heaven. I miss him. Micky I pray for Gods peace to wash over you. Your poem was beautiful in all its pondering s and sadness, it was lovely. I offer my friendship as no one needs to be alone.

Take care

God bless,

Micky - You know I don't have your faith in 'anything' out there, but I value your words, your humanity, beyond measure.

You are not alone, Micky, as long as you can write poetry like this and touch the minds and hearts of others . . . as you did me.

Beautiful words always come from your heart, Micky. God sees it, you don't need to despair.

There is so much peace and acceptance of yourself in this Micky. It flows and is beautifully heartfelt. I'm glad you can take the time to sit and look out over God's earth. You don't have to be like all those people who let you down. You don't have to take your revenge. Because they aren't you and somewhere there must be solace in an honest heart that does not live to accumulate by any means necessary. It is so frustrating to be humble and become buried by the callousness of material pursuits. But we know you and when you are contemplative and calm you are extremely inspiring....

You have touched more than one heart in your life and still do, my dear friend. Since you have your faith and God on your side are not alone and the ones who can't see and appreciate you, do not count; they never did.

Beautiful, though melancholy poem , Micky.

My heart hurts for you. Never underestimate the power of prayer, someone told me once. So I can pray for you too.

So glad to see you writing. Hope you are still cycling if it brings you joy. Love you, man as always.
