Tales of Blue and Grey.........

What words could ever be spoken
as two brothers look at each other and wonder
Of such looks there is no understanding
perhaps god as well can blunder

Steam trains roll in and out ....a thousand towns
the smell of coal in the morning sun
As this story ends though so does
a family ....but only when war is done

And back at home a mother and father
will sit silently till the day they die
Neither of them coping well
in silence ......no more wondering why

And as the two brothers stand facing
one raises his hand.... the other smiles
But the trains of war just roll away
across the bitter miles

Both of them putting on thier jackets
both bowing in silence to pray
And as life happens by...... in the trains windows
One puts on the blue .....and one the grey

It must be heart wrenching as brothers being on opposite sides of the fence. Very beautifully written as usual.

You just can't imagine how anyone would cope with this.

Beautifully written.

Very moving. I've often wondered how relatives from opposite sides coped during the Civil War. There were some instances of Blues and Greys helping each other out, clandestinely.

I'm told this happened, how sad. Did we learn? I think not. Very poignant. Thank you. You have this talent to bring the past mistakes into light. Well done.

Love this. Members in my own family were on different sides I think it happened more often then we know.

Violet sun , I too was always haunted more by the tragedy of personal trials than even our national woes .

I have seen and known too many families [and my own]who pay the ultimate price of war. Our medias focus on everything else just morphs all the personal loss into silence. And so ,the old soldier dies in a painful silent solitude , while the rest of us live free and clear of these intensely personal trials . Whether we 'believe' in war or not, we cast a heavy ,heavy burden on a soldiers family. Congress and Senate should be forced to don a uniform on occasion! Thanks Violetsun , for letting me rant but more for understanding!......:-}
