What To Do.........When no words will come.

Sipping on thoughts.... early morning of coffee
the music softly playing
My mind begins to wander ....thats the way
my emotions say what they're saying

Where to begin ....what to say...
how...... who.....sighing
To write of love of loss or
laughter ....or of crying

But no........no words will come
my fingers do not move
Maybe it's time to go out ...take a walk
get my soul into a groove

I'm glad though ... I don't write for money
there's no silver in my coffers
At times though ...there is a warming spell
and the words will make an offer

And so .......in the cool early morning
I leave the keys on the table
I will let the dogs run on ahead
the words'll come when they're able

It is always great to be able to get money from anything we write. But if from the very beginning, it is money we after and not the essence of what we write, our work will lost it's soul. Eh, but maybe it is because I am not that professional? Tehehe ^^.

For the one who said had no words to write, you surely have more than 50 words to write this poem, Dad. :p

Sometimes we can't get in tune with our Muse, but when it comes back it comes back with thoughts that will keep you up past midnight. This is calming as to say, not to fret when the will to write is there, but the words are not found. Inspiring!

I hope it was a great walk. I bet the dogs appreciated it! And that's the thing to do when you aren't inspired--go do something else. Good for you. You ended up with something worthwhile, anyway.

You did find words to express your 'wordlessness', I just made that word up!

The block happens to me all the time, it's happening to me right now!

It's a lovely poem, ahorseback, and I agree that it does express what you felt to express.

I never fret about it. When it comes, it's there and if it waits - that's ok, too. In fact I don't think of it as a block, but rather, I apply a word I've applied to other feelings of being somewhat in limbo or out of touch with myself: - "Fertile Flux". I found that, once I'd named that feeling, it was not unwelcome. We are not machines which crank out things on cue. Or, I should say - if we do that, those things cease to have our real spirit in them. Writing is a special expression of our inner being and is not public domain. I suppose that being assigned essays to write in school and being required to write out our history on resumes makes it seem that we should be able to write anything, any time. I just find that the quality suffers when I force it or fret over it. When I stop and listen to my inside voice, it's usually there. But it's best when it just bursts out with it. And the sense of being silent IS how it sometimes speaks.

By the way, I freely volunteer my age: - I finished up 79 years from my birth on Feb. 2nd, so I'm working on 80. :-)

Well My dear Nellieanna , I suspected all along you were a gifted writer from the first poem of your's that reached out and said aloud....Wisdom! And boom there was Nellieanna!, No I don't block I run warm and cool that's all. Thank you for being one of the nicest hearts alive. And please take care of you for us !

Thank you, my friend. Ah - yes - I understand warm and cool. Those are authentic modes. I do take care of myself. And I don't feel a lot different than I did a couple of decades ago. I'm kind of glad I feel different than I did at 22, though. hehe.

I wouldnt return to my younger age for anything , how about you? 22 , uuhhh. Working in the construction trades , I wish I still had a body that wasn't falling apart though. Be well Nellieanna.

Right - I've no interest in living retrograde! I'm delighted to feel life flowing in me each day at any age. Of course, in some ways the body isn't as great as it was at 22, but a lot of that is choice, what one does with it now. I plan to live to at least 100 and still be healthy and feisty. That involves some choices which didn't' seem quite so important back then, but even back then, I thought about it somewhat. I can forgo cheeseburgers and fries for more years of being fully alive and functioning well!

I just elected to stop taking the only RxI had, after reading the side-effects! The pharmacist mentioned that those could be caused by other things, but - heck - the other things aren't required by law to list everything from cancer, heart problems, dementia, vein problems and a host of other possibilities. My reasoning is that if one consults an allergist, he or she will eliminate the most probable causes of the allergy and do it pronto! haha. Sometimes it pays to take charge of one's own driver's seat! I don't believe I'll die or be rendered useless from lack of a hormone supplement, which warns those possible "side-effects" right on the box! ;-)

Nellieanna , You should keep in mind that the this country and our young need our wisdom , Its funny , when I think about age , it has never been an issue for me in fact , as a young man I always wanted to be older anyway. Even now it doesn't bother me at all. So much of who we are is whats inside. Our fire ,if you will. Keep the fire alive ! Be well....:-}
