Tattered Radiance

Tattered soul

Beaten and old

Corroded by time

Just like my own

Weakening heart

Long lost dreams

You’d learn to fly

If you could only

Find the means

To spread your wings

One final moment

Of wind through your hair

To blow away the tears

To erase all your fear

Release all your pain

From the box it resides

From the cage in which

It always has tried

To escape, so confined

Inside your heart

Soul, mind, and eyes

Beneath your smile

Which you held

So dearly to you

So closely to you

You held it together

For the ones you loved

They always looked

Up to you so high

They placed you upon

A pedestal in their eyes

For your strength was

All they ever had

To really get by

Life, it has a way

Of robbing, decaying

A way of always

Staying the same and

Repeating in cycles

It endlessly spirals

Out of control

Out of our hands

Into the sands

Of time and of life

And the violins

They play sweetly

In the backgrounds

To mask the murder

To cover the crimson

To gift us new breath

To drown out the death

In sweet melody

To bring out the beauty

That hides somewhere

Within it all

Someday…

We’ll see

......and we have seen how beautifully crafted this cycle of life's ups and downs, beginnings and ends, is. You have never missed a beat, you are gifted.

Sad, Ben. Beautiful but sad, perhaps too sad.

My George diminished over several years but didn't experience such dismal awareness. His bright spirit seemed to outshine the clouds.

I guess the perspective of your heart-felt poem is from that of those who live on, though. But in my case, I just could never yield to discouragement, for his sake if no other; but also because life is life as long as it IS. Discouragement almost kills it before it's done.

Hugs, Ben. As always, good work. Voted up and awesome.

It does, but only if we allow it to. ;)

Ben, I have been visiting and voting up your marvelous work but have not had time to leave comments.

I almost saw that someday last week when I had a major heart attack. As the sole caretaker, for now, of my husband who is teetering on the end stage of COPD, not quite eligible for Hospice and Medicares 6 month death sentence rule, I found peace in the thought I was going and he would soon follow. Apparently, that is not the plan ... at least for now.

But - there is peace there, I can tell you that. A marvelous peace and love so rich you can feel it in your pores. You aren't going to find it if you look for it and go after it one your own. You have to wait for the invitation, but it is there my young friend. It gave me what I need to know parting from my husband will be a brief pause and then we can both be totally surrounded and filled with this coming bliss.

Your writing continues to inspire me and amaze me!
