Team Cap's Prostate Cancer Journey. Author: Linda Kaywood Bilyeu

Captain America. "We salute you Cap!"
Captain America. "We salute you Cap!" | Source

A long, winding road of peaks and valleys. Take my hand. C'mon along.

That tall, handsome dude to the right is Dave Ligler, also known as Captain America or for short, just "Cap." According to his devoted wife Linda, Dave will respond to several other names. For that special list of names, I refer you to the Dedication of this book in review. And as only wives can do, Linda will graciously introduce you to her beloved late husband via her description of his authentic self. I promise you, you will fall in love....with both of them.

If you make it through the first few pages which include this dedication and Introduction, as well as the quotes and memories of Team Cap, great! I applaud you. If you're not already one of the hundreds of Team Cap members and fans, you have just qualified.

So mates, the order of the day is to follow along. I'll be taking you through parts of a journal that spans a period of seven and a half years. Surely this will be just a peek at the priceless education of this one hundred and twenty-seven page book. Just enough for you to be certain it is a treasure you must have, must read and will want to share. Please believe me, never before will you have wanted to share a book with every person you love.....perhaps even strangers. It is that valuable.

What stands out clearly throughout this journal, is the patience, determination and continued hope of it's author Linda as well as it's main character Dave, to keep documenting every move, whether forward, static or disappointing stumble. The fact that Dave and Linda both had enough concern for others who may one day need their support via their experiences, is in itself a true testament to their giving & loving nature.

And everyone HATES you. We WILL wipe you out one day, you bastard.
And everyone HATES you. We WILL wipe you out one day, you bastard.

The six-letter word, a merciless BULLY we love to HATE

Cancer. Very very few terms can create such earth-shattering fear and dread.

As you read this, chances are at the very least, two or three persons have entered your mind. Those people at some point, in one form or another have received a diagnosis. Perhaps it's been a family member, dear friend, a co-worker or maybe even yourself.

Whatever the case is/was in your life, I believe we can all agree on several ugly facts. Cancer is a cruel beast that is not satisfied with one person but must bring pain and torment to entire families. It creates havoc like little else, often leaving human beings, their peace of mind, finances, time and energy in utter chaos. It is sneaky, mysterious and enjoys that it may still be misunderstood. It will attempt to defy or reject treatments and herculean efforts by Doctors and patients.

Linda Kaywood shares with her readers, in depth and with gut honesty the continual schedule of appointments, discussions of every sort with any number of medical professionals on the pros and cons, the ifs and buts. As Linda and Dave are faced with their battle, they must also be struck with the reality that even the alleged gods (drs) really haven't a clue.

What cancer does not know, nor does it often expect, is the power of the human spirit. Little could Dave's cancer have known it picked on the wrong couple to mess with.

Buckle up as Dave and Linda take you through their battles, one at a time, month after month. They share it all. You will learn a wealth of pertinent information and extremely beneficial advice, tried and true by this courageous husband and wife team.

Linda's thirst for all the knowledge she could possibly absorb, brought a treasure of lessons in the newest and most successful chemo. She'll teach you of their names, their purpose and side effects as Dave shares the good and the bad of every treatment. Many pages in this journal are ripe with the information about cancer drugs we all truly need to understand.

You may find within the pages of this journal, answers to questions you've not thought to ask or worse, were too afraid to ask. Relax, Linda asked for us and she brings us answers. This author, standing tall and tireless as her husband's primary caregiver, left few if any stones unturned. Consider this book a "gift," because it is. It's a gift of love.

Support: Family, laughter & love

Every body say, "CAPTAIN AMERICA!!"
Every body say, "CAPTAIN AMERICA!!" | Source

Hope and Special Moments

With their bonds of family, friends and loyalty, Cap and his first mate want you to know it's not all dreariness or darkness. Hell no. Not for this group of warriors. Their respective children and grandchildren continued to fill their lives with loyalty and support. Who on earth can light up your life quicker than a precious grandchild?

The dozens and dozens of friends that Dave and Linda acquired through various cancer support groups became treasured individuals leaning on one another, sharing experiences. Everyone......every single person who loves these two amazing people....tried always to be there for them. Their gratitude is shown in their willingness to return this generosity of self to these special individuals.

You'll understand perfectly as you read this journal. You will be moved to tears, and just as certainly feel inner joy that brings a smile to your face.. Yes, you will cheer for them and cry with them as you genuinely feel, the peaks and valleys of their journey.. You will learn valuable lessons to reference again and again when up against odds, helping you to plow through and forward, one day at a time.

The commitment and courage displayed by both Dave and Linda throughout this battle against cancer, presents a profound reality of the power of perseverance and positive living.
I take this opportunity to express my own gratitude to Team Cap for this journal brimming with amazing inspiration.

"Team Cap's Prostate Cancer Journal" should be in your hands so it will find it's way into your hearts, by Today!.

Dear beautiful Audrey....Oops! I hadn't seen your comment until just now. Guess that's because I'm here so seldom these days. So much activity throughout the summer and a lot of projects in line, waiting to be completed!

Thank you for your wonderful comment as always. It's safe to say that our Sunshine has finally arrived at a calmer level. The woman never ceases to amaze us!

We're all together in this battle against a devastating disease. Each and every one of us who have experienced it's wretchedness.

Take care Audrey!

Magnificent Paula! I have Linda's book, read it and now you've motivated me to read it again! Your description of cancer is right-on. Its such a true and well-said explanation of what cancer is I just had to copy it, will use it, and the credit given to you, Paula, one of the best writers in the business.

We all love you dear friend and that goes for Linda as well.

I know first-hand how losing a family member to cancer can be the most difficult struggle in a person's life. I just wanna kick-butt and know that this disease is on its way out...for good and forever!

Love you Paula,

Audrey

Great review, Paula. Reading it makes you definitely want to know more about "Cap" and his journey through this. He obviously has a spirit about him that should be commended; his "Sunshine" as well. You are awesome, Paula. You are generous in sharing their story, and you do it well. I think all of us some how or another has been affected by cancer, whether it be a family member or friend, or even just running along this story about "Cap." It's affecting, but it is also inspirational. :)

This is a terrific and loving book review. It especially caught my eye because Linda is the author, and also because I, too, lost a husband to cancer many years ago and, in fact, wrote my own book about it. Mine, however is quite different from Lynda's because it centers on my own struggles after his passing and tells how I went on to build a new life.

I am so sorry that Linda's husband lost her battle, but so glad you wrote this review. I would never have known about any of this otherwise.

Paula, Thanks for sharing a great book review. I will definitely make an attempt to read this book. I was diagnosed with left kidney cancer in 2015 and had my kidney removed. My moderate BPH has also been a concern during the past 17 years. I am sharing this with HP followers.

For SURE, Wes.....genetics plays a vital role here. We all should take a good, long serious look at our familial histories! I'm not fond of this because it's not all that great on either side!.....Take care of yourself!

We all get to play the game of genetic roulette. If I have more of my father's genes, then I can drink, smoke, and eat all the red meat I want, and probably die at 90 something years old.

If I am more like my mother's father and brothers....I'll have prostate cancer by the time I'm 62. I'm ditching processed meats for good measure

We are blessed to have met one another and become a part of a wonderful circle of supportive and grateful friends! The only thing better would be to live in the same neighborhood!

Although, if you're thinking what I'm thinking, there may not be a "neighborhood" anywhere that could handle all 3 of us as residents!!

We'd be marching for a new cause every day!.....LOL Love, Effer

Paula what a wonderful review and testament to the power of love. Linda's strength is inspirational. The bond she and Cap shared carries forth in everything she does. She never stops in her fight with cancer. She selflessly continues to bring awareness and offer support to those who are now walking the walk she and Cap did. She's an amazing woman.
