Tell Me

Tell me your fears

Your thoughts, your scars, your troubles

And though I may also shed some tears

I will help you bear your struggle

I may not have all of the right words

But I will certainly lend you an ear

Though I cannot take away your hurt

When you need me I am here

The burden may be yours alone to carry

But if I can I will lighten your load

Maybe even just a little simply by caring

Remember, I will go with you down this road

Shanmarie, I do believe that we decrease our sorrow when we share it with trusted friends. At the same time we increase our joy when we share it. Your poem is a beautiful invitation to be grabbed by those who are struggling with heavy burdens. Sometimes we only need to share without the need of professional advice.

We all need to know that there is someone else willing to share our burdens to help lighten the load. A generous offer.

Thank you, Martie. Sorrow decreases, yes, but it is not always easy to be the one that simply listens even though that is all that might be desired or needed. I sometimes get frustrated to hear people tell me they are there when needed and then suddenly have to go in those moments when it is not counsel I seek, but more or less just a shoulder to let me cry on and an ear to listen as I pour out my heart. Emotional support, I guess, and I don't seek even that often because few can be trusted on that level. It's not that I am not capable of picking myself back up or of counseling myself; it's just comforting and reassuring if and when someone is willing to be there in that moment with me.

Anyway, it's not advice or tough love many seek and I hope that I can be that ear for my friends when needed and not one to seemingly turn away. It's almost like mixed messages to say "I am here for you" or "I will be there if you need me" and then to more or less tell someone to just suck it up or to not talk about feelings or thoughts immediately on the mind, especially when that is what that person will ultimately do anyway - get over it and go on.

Thanks, Jodah. It's a sincere one for anyone that wants or needs to take me up on it. Sometimes an ear is all that is needed even if I don't fathom why or even if I want to do or say more to help.

There's nothing like a caring ear when a friend or anyone is in need. A good listener is priceless. Well done..

Listening is indeed priceless, Ruby. So why then is it so hard to come by? People have good intentions of being there for someone else and even genuinely care, which is also priceless, but tend to leave when an ear and a hug are all that is desired to help.

Beautiful poem, dear Shan. It is a beautiful gift to be able to just truly listen and be there for another one during times of heavy burdens. That is a true friend.

Up and more and away

Blessings and hugs

Thank you, Leslie. It's just an offer to friends. Can't force anyone to open up that way and some just prefer not to. But, many just want the comfort of someone listening, especially when the feelings are so intense. It does seem to divide them and somehow ease the pressure, doesn't it? No value in fixing things, but plenty of value in getting started and staying on the track to fixing things on one's own.

fpherj48, comfort does indeed come in many forms! And so does love!

Hi FlourishAnyway, empathy can and usually does lighten the load. But, it isn't always easy to hear another pour out their heart in pain or temporary confusion. Something about the act of someone being there without being judgmental during those moments leaves a person open and vulnerable, yet comforted too. For me, I don't often seek someone to listen. I cry alone, so it is hard for me to even tell someone exactly what I want or need when I do. People are so busy with their own troubles and problems and it feels like a burden to even ask someone to stay with me a bit. So, with that in mind, I offer and do listen as best I can when I am sought after. Even if the empathy is only in that moment, that seems to be when it is most needed.

This is a beautiful expression of friendship. Everyone needs this kind of friend, be it lover or bbf. Anyone can mouth words, but to have someone there to really listen to your cares is wonderful. Voted up

What a beautiful and serene poem. Sometimes it is just good to have someone there who will listen. Listening is one of the most important things we can do when someone is hurting. Lovely poem. Thanks for sharing this.
