The Birth Of A King

~~~~
~~~~

I have sailed

the most malevolent of storms,

feeling the chaos watching me,

hearing the twisted cries

of turmoil,

resounding as laughter

all around me.

The sunlight has died,

a most humiliating death indeed,

overwhelmed, impossibly,

by the magnitude of darkness

which swept through

and throughout

all that once shone bright.

The moon is starving,

craving the warmth it always knew,

longing deeply

to illuminate the night sky

once more,

giving hope

to those who were lost

in the shadows.

The stars are crying,

watching, regretfully,

as the laws of nature

become irrelevant,

and the very truth of their being

becomes a mockery.

The tempest sea,

loving, an animal it remains,

and though remorseful,

it now shall claim me

as its own,

as I merge into the water.

It’s so cold,

but my nerve endings are failing,

and I find myself sinking

deeper

into a state of indifference,

as the fear takes on a new image…

a smile

Drowning was

never so blissful,

dying was

never so beautiful,

losing was

never so great a victory…

until this very day…

....the title was misleading - I thought it was gonna be about you writing at the Hub - but then again with majestic words and thoughts like these you are definitely shaping up one day Prince Ben to take over that title .....

Ben this simply depicts how i feel right now, thank you so much for sharing this. It makes the phrase [Victory in defeat] sound so appealing. The last verses simply got the best of me and me smile for a second. I don't know why but those words of yours can simply move a mountain!!

YOu simplly outdid yourself here, and i am really glad to have read this :D:D

best stanza ever

[Drowning was

never so blissful,

dying was

never so beautiful,

losing was

never so great a victory

until this very day…

Well you need to be different more often then. That's the joy and the challenge of creative writing, going where no man, or woman, has gone before. To infinity and beyond. How about a poem about the 'beyond' bit? Cheers

Hi Ben, somehow it sounds epic to me. Not sure why, I keep imagining a great sailor in the 1700s or 1800s. I have a wild imagination.

Beautiful!!

wow! this was like the best youve ever written in my opinion anyway. I love it word for word, the ending is spectacular!

Whoah, dude. This is some righteous prose that reads more like something penned by an 18th century Englishman as opposed to a generation-whatever American. Good to see your fine talent expanding and evolving. My spider-sense tells me that you could write novels someday when you have the time and the tale that needs to be told. Keep up the good work.
