The African Violet!

The Birthmark

Copyright 2008 VVeasey Publishing

From the distant hills

Wotan’s thunder sounds

On native birthmarks

Blues eyes did frown

Through the land of “darkness”

Rolled the European “light”

Like an iron fist

Crushing the Ebonies rights

On the ship of terror

Some were beaten and drowned

Reached the sugar cane islands

With the remnant still bound

Shipped to the south

To pick the woolly white sprout

Treated like animals

Though the human cried out

Worked against their wills

By a barbarous might

What wrong did they commit?

Not being white

Wouldn’t teach them to read

But some felt they must

So they slew their brothers

For a cause that was just

And through all these atrocious

And barbarous misdeeds

Grows the African Violent

Like a mighty black steed
