The Builder's Song

The Builder's Song

Today, I would like to share this this poem which I crafted at a time when students were preparing for graduation and teachers were most concerned with polishing programs and other details of the ceremony.

This poem, I now dedicate to the teachers, is considerably expressing my thoughts on the passion they embrace to make their students grow in their little corners.

Here it is:

I build strong blocks:

Tried to finely mix

sand of learning and skill,

gravel of strength and courage,

cement of faith and hope,

and water of grand inspiration.

I mix a dough each day

to fortify the blocks-

a sure foundation to stand

right before a passionate wand

ready to spell my course

I'll try to master and purge.

Yes, I am building anew

a strong facade of tomorrow

by finishing a sure part past

looking up with towering sight

any course of time is cast

I'll take it all to flight.

It is hoped you find inspiration in this piece.

The metaphors in your poem speaks not only of molding the minds of the youth but also ask them to aspire for lofty goals and take flight.Your students are lucky to have a dedicated teacher who can also inspire.

Sir Don, wonderful poem... it again reminded me how tremendous and gigantic is our job as educators, I like the lines that say: fortify the blocks/a sure foundation to stand...

you are a loving teacher

denden mangubat: Thank you very much. I may not be that loving, but I try to find love for students for they also need the same care. Sometimes, they go to school to look for it because they may not be shielded by parents' love at home. For some, they find it in the schools, in the presence of teachers, of friends. The discrimination they may feel at home must not be duplicated in school. Sensitivity for them is necessary. They can become better citizens with better people to look up to. Teachers and students alike are God's gifts. We become gifts to one another.
