The Color In My Life

As I open the closet door and peer in--still half asleep (in the need for that third cup of coffee) I stand there and ponder on what I will wear today. Of course, it will have to compliment those raggedy old jeans! Now---there is that RED pull-over with the faded words printed on it stating "HOT MOMMA" well maybe I should throw that in the rag bag?

Okay, there is that RED blouse with the torn sleeve or the faded RED one with the frayed collar---Nah! Then I realize that there are many hangers and all have the color RED hanging from them?

Color plays an important part in our lives, yet they vary with time, place and culture. It can affect our behavior and feeling without you realizing it.

Here are a couple of examples:

RED: It is often used in America to indicate a warning; such as a stop sign, yet at the same time, it symbolizes love, passion, strength, braver, excitement, romance, heat, ambition, arrogance and much more. A simple RED rose can symbolize passionate love.

The Color Of Love
The Color Of Love

During certain periods of history RED was worn at funerals in parts of China, Korea and Japan.  the shades of RED change with time.  In China now, red is the color of prosperity and joy.

RED  is the strong symbolism of blood as in life and vitality and survival.

As I think more about it I realize that colors are very important to each one of us in the painting of our everyday lives.  Yes, my closet pointed that out to me---and my wine-rack only seems to be able to hold RED wine---a mystery of taste?  My flower garden shows more RED roses than any other color?

As you can see RED is my favorite color and I think that I will keep that old raggedy RED pull-over a little longer---it feels sooooo good and it blends perfectly with my faded jeans.

As always I enjoyed this Ginn, red has always symbolized passion to me and when we allow that passion to ignite, we are driven in every area that you mentioned. Thanks :)

I loved red as a child and I find that I'm rediscovering a fondness for it of late! :)

As you know, I have done a series of poems on the color and yes, it is quite provocative. Though I'd say my color is blue, I can never ignore red. Thanks for sharing this precious hub. And I'll always picture you in red, my friend. :D

Merry Christmas to you and yours! :D

Never thought about it that way mom. I can't imagine you in any other color. I like purple, but I clearly am like Cris, my color is clearly blue as I look around at my choices in clothes and art. Love you.

Hey Cris, yes you are the one that inspired me to think of colors with your poems. Yet, my weird humor just seems to get in there too. Happy Holidays to you and your family.

I said I'll always picture you in red, make that a red pull-over with the words "HOT MOMMA" though I might add "VERY" and have the color retouched! :D

Fenzero thanks, I agree color does seem to guide us without us really knowing it.

Feline, yes our fondness of colors sometimes change with our lives.

Jerilee, purple would be my second choice, but wine-red is my favorite. Blue was the color you always picked out when you were little too. LOVE YA

Hi Ginn- I started following Jerilee with her hub on the Gulf birds and found you commenting. I am now following you. I found your Red Hub funny and clicked it before you said you have a wierd sense of humour. Then, I guess I must have one too. You should change your profile picture to one where you are wearing your "Red Hot Mama" sweatshirt and your faded blue jeans.

Red is an easy, big easy, word to rhyme and I think I'll paint my next poem red in your honour.

I was down your way for Mardi Gras this year and love the cajun flavour - not just food; music, dance and lifestyle. I toured Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama before the spill. I was in Biloxi for the superbowl and was at the Saints victory parade in New Orleans. I wish I'd met you and Jerilee before my last trip so I could have enjoyed the flavour of real cajun hospitality. I guess I'll just need to visit again.

I was last at Mardi Gras in 2004 before Katrina and now in 2010 before the spill. I hope that I'm not a Jonah bringing these disasters in the wake of my visits. Cheers.

P.S. Red Roses For a Blue Lady by Paul Anka has always been an old favorite of mine and made your hub just perfect. All the best, Gerry

Gerry, welcome to our wacky side of the world. Yes there is always room for humor, especially in todays world it is needed I think?

I am glad that you were able to visit our Cajun land before the oil spill---the wildlife that was lost broke my ole heart, man will survive but the birds, etc--have no voice.

I wrote a hub on this---THE GREED OF IT ALL. Sadly this will continue for MONEY talks.

There is another hubber that you might enjoy for he too writes poetry and honored me with a red poem or was it my weird sense of humor--Cris A. It will be an honor to see yours too.

Jerilee is the real talented writer in this family and don't tell anyone but she is half---Irish.

Best wishes at ya.
