The Course of Love

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

The test of love lies far from romance,

the tender moments that enliven a heart

and ignite the fire of passion.

It is when a soul needs comfort,

the kindness of consideration and selfless giving

that love swells, transcending all else,

into the tranquillity of sharing a burden.

Love course is varied and enriching

for those open to its expression,

for those willing to acknowledge the sacrifice

of unconditional love.

The bounty of love is endless and rewarding,

for all who can live life by the ideal,

give purpose to kindness, compassion

and the friendship and respect that a loving partnership demands.

Often love is temporary, an explosion of passion

that is subdued by darkness, but a flicker of light.

These affectations of love are muscles exercising,

the heart misguided by lustful thoughts

and the pursuit of dreams of fancy.

Love lives only through commitment,

sacrifice and the acceptance of sharing life’s challenges

and the caring of a soul,

prepared to work endlessly for the nurturing

of life’s greatest gift.
