The Darkened Room- A Poem

The Darkened Room

There’s a tight feeling around my eyes

Like a cloth has been put there

And darkness surrounds

Engulfs every inch

Stealing my breath away.

Scratching at my face,

Tearing at my flesh

I grasp at the invisible cloth.

Tears drench my face

At the battle no one sees

Stuck in this darkened room alone.

A struggle I must make

I know I will succeed,

I fight until I fall.

When all will seems gone

At the last minute I feel a comfort hand

Upon my arm lifting me back up again.

I fight and I tug, a tug-a-war inside

My eyes seem to lift open, a weight seems lifted

And I finally see the light at the furthest wall.

It illuminates through the door, so golden

Calling out towards me,

A freedom from this broken path.

A freedom from this darkened room.

Atarah, thank you for inviting me into your world. It is a place of both shadows and redemption, you are a very brave woman. I am sorry for your journey as I know it is a struggle at times for you. Please know I surround you with a pure love born out of my own pain of abuse, mental illness and PTSD. There is HOPE as you are discovering every moment. This poem is beautiful and I can relate to it as I have been in this place several times. The drawing at the end illustrates what I call 'golden door' moments I have from time to time when poems, songs, artwork etc open up to me giving me hope. I love you.

There is much beauty in your poems of despair. You write with exquisite ease. I can easily feel you Spirit. How I wish I knew you and you knew me. I believe that we would have embraced each other in the 'Silent Light.'

What need is there for aught else? Hari Om Tat Sat.

P.S. I know of Tanzanite. Indeed I have touched it also. Loving thoughts.

manatita44, thank you for your kind comments. I am glad that you find beauty in my "dark" poems, as I call them. I only wish that others would too, not just recognizing the sadness that belong in them but the beauty as you have mentioned.
