The Dream of Spring

The Dream of Spring

Mud-soaked floorboards,

rivulets of water, a Nile of intent,

skinny dogs poring over a few bones,

I might wish myself far away,

Except for what comes next...

A month of pussy willows,

a green mouse ear or two...

a lengthening of birdsong,

brilliant light on the cadaver of Winter,

A few sprigs of grass and fireweed;

and, the wise seek the violet along

every stream and river, scented with life...

then yellow and white starflowers-

in the belly of an angel come forth

trailing raspberry and bluebell,

and finally, too quick to make notice,

watermelonberries and twinflower,

buttercups monkshood and parnassus,

and , of a sudden,

the show is through...

the carnival pulls it's stakes

and we are left-

a quiet winter dreaming

till the carnival shows again.

THIS is classic Lily and I am honored to know you. The flow, the word selection and everything about this makes me rejoice.
