The Duties of A Lover

In Favor of Fidelity

If a moments wait would turn to dust

An hour frustrate lust,

To get a maiden's back to bend

A proposition of union discreet

Then perhaps you  are unworthy of the greater prize

Had upon the sacrament

Blessed with a timeless seal

If you truly care for her

That which drives you now

Could lead you to your higher self

And love not burn but grow as time passes on

To take a thing in a moments haste

That later prove to be a waist or snare

Come friend be aware!

True affections bow not to clocks.

Dying slowly with each tick-tock.

The connection would not trap you bellow

Shucking plating when the sun bakes.

So guard yourself

Abstaining.

I really don't think I understand this; does it mean that true love doesn't hurry and to abstain or wait? Even if Im wrong, a poem about the duties of a lover, besides being faithful should in my mind include passion, and affection, and pleasing them as well as being pleased.

Your hubs give off a cold, unfriendly odor--may be why you have only 17 followers after 5 months...?

Good luck w/ the bipolar and asperbergers' I know that both are difficult because w/ bipolar one can be very irritable and w/ asbergers one can be unable to express emotion. Ugg.

What is love that isn't meant for an eternity? If not this then it is some other emotion masquerading behind those four letters. If it is eternal then little else then what I have written should be expected before matrimony. That is what I meant.

I totally understand the importance of waiting until marriage for intimacy. I especially appreciate the line: "To take a thing in a moments haste that later prove to be a waist or snare..." Certainly not what most expect from such an action, probably mistakenly hoping it will lead to something more permanent (which it often does not).

A wise man once said, "Girls play with sex for love, and boys play with love for sex."

You know, I totally believe that. I could never see sex that way though, but then thats just me. Instead I seem to come off self-righteous. Truthfully I believe that term is a cop out for those who have their consciences pricked but sometimes it still stings.

Hi, Kana, Thank you. As often happens, the etinre poem arose out of me trying to do just what I ended up writing about. I was becoming sad, and then angry, and the poem jumped out of my hands onto the keyboard. That is also my favorite line, although I didn't notice it at first. Thanks for knowing what I was writing about! Judith
