The Fallout

It took place over on the West Side,

the city’s 30th homicide,

the detective unit was dealing

with the fallout from a triple shooting,

chaos on the streets,

people breaking into stores and looting,

one guy shot in the head,

nothing could be done for him,

he was already pronounced dead,

a streetwalker with blood on her feet,

whose customer was shot on River Street,

she said she was taking him for a ride,

until he became another homicide,

the city needed a reality check,

there was a young girl

who was a nervous wreck,

she killed her boyfriend

as she compensated for the end

of their relationship by shooting

him in the chest,

she fired three times,

and she did her best,

he wouldn’t survive as he bleeds,

soon he’ll be planted in a cemetery,

pushing up weeds,

the detective unit scans the bustling activity,

and the crime around them just grows,

a city with so many wonderful people,

but only the ugly shows.

Only the ugly shows...quite poignant I think Frank. Even the most violent of places have a vast majority of wonderful people, but it is the cases of extreme violence that will always, sadly, stand out..and be representative of a city or community...another great snapshot of the work of the hapless detective, in fine poetic form.

Frank, this could describe just about any big city these days. Heck, even some of the smaller towns around here these days. We just had a murder and attempted murder in one of the oil boom towns. Crime is getting crazy around here. This was a great read, as always! :) My most talented friend, keep up the great crime wave !:)

How true! Why do we always concentrate on the bad when there is so much good happening in the world? A great poem.

As much as I hate to think about it this reminds me of my hometown N.Y.C. where you have to know where you are going, keep your nose out of other people's business and be so very careful. Well done.

"Pushing up weeds." I haven't heard that in a long while, Frank. Love the detail and the succinct way you put all this into this short prose about the ugly side.

A reality tour through the mean streets by the master recorder. Important point how the bad deeds of the minority always seem to obscure those of the good folk in peoples perceptions. Wickedness sells and good deeds often go unreported. "Sherlock Poems', do believe Mr Mike has something there!

Another awesome piece Frank. This could be any city in the world.

It is awful when the bad hides all the good. Read the newspapers, it is always the crimes that hit the front pages not the good news.

Frank, you choose powerful expressions to depict gruesome events.

You have composed this dramatic poem wonderfully.
