Packing up her clothe and ready to leave, her son Chan saw his mother packing up. He asked his mother where is she planning to go? Rotha was in tears and tell her son that she missed home. She doesn't want to stay in America anymore.
"Mom we just got here and you should give America a chance" said Chan. "Chan, honey...I..." said Rotha as she take a deep breath. "Mom! Don't leave me!" Chan hug his mother waist. Rotha tried her best to hold her tears but it was too hard for her. She didn't want to tell Chan any of her problem between her and Namol but instead she say she missed home. Namol came in her mother room and saw her mother packed her suitcase and her brother holding onto Rotha waist begging her to not leave. Namol grabbed her mother bag and said, "I'll take you to the airport!"
Rotha was expecting her daughter to stop her from leaving but instead her daughter insist her to leave. Chan ran outside to yell at his sister, "Namol, why did you do this? Aren't you gonna stop mom!?! Aint you got a heart to stop her from leaving us? Do you even remember how we got here? It was mom! She work days and night to earn every penny making quilt to get you to school and come to America! Did money blind you sister?" cried Chan.
With a slap across the face by his sister, Namol said, "I never forget! I know how I got here and it was because I worked hard to get here. I study from days to night to pass each test at school. Mom yell at me everytime I get home from school and it stress me. Do you even know how it feel going to school and come home being bitched at like a dog? I tried my best to have mom appreciate me but everything I do was not perfect like you. You were always momma boy and I'm always the bad daughter! She doesn't love me because she's always too busy farming and didn't have time for me! If she love me she would turn a lot of her attention to me! I want to tell her what was going on in my life but she was not always available. Do you even know Chan? Do you even know that I cry every night and pray that mother would turn around and appreciate me? Do you know that all I want was love from mama. Living in Thailand my heart was aching because mom always say bad stuff about me. She tell her friend that I stink everywhere I go. Everyone in town hate me because of mom!" Namol cried while expressing her feeling to her brother.
"Mom was always busy because she's doing it for you sister! Do you even know? She worked by the train track every morning to catch visitor attention so she can sale them her quilt. Food that she wished to eat she decided not to buy them but instead keep it for you so you can pay for school. All she wished was for you to become well educated. One time she was robbed but she still manage to pull through to get that money for you even though she was in great pain. She sacrifice every bit of her energy for you sister. How can you say she doesn't love you? She love you so much that she would do anything to get you to school so you can come to America and live like the wealthy people. Mom always say sorry to me because she doesn't have enough money to pay me to go to school. Was I mad? No, because I understand. I the one suppose to be jealous, I the one suppose to be upset not you sister but why are you being so selfish and cruel? Why sister?" yelled Chan.
Namol started to cry and shut her ears tight with her palm telling her brother to shut up. "Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! Chan you don't know nothing, you don't! Shut up!" continue pressing her hand against her ear.
"No I won't shut up until you know how valuable you are to mother! Did you even know that mother was stone nearly to death to steal a uniform shirt for you on your birthday? Mom was one cent less to get you that shirt you wanted but they won't sell it to her. She decided to steal it but she got caught and were stone. Aunt Sai pay that shirt for ma so she can give it to you. Mom borrow $15 dollar from aunt Sai to pay for your school several time. She go out every morning to earn every penny for you. I go out hunting by the woods catching wild rabbit and fishing by the pond to bring food to eat while mom knitting quilt. You should learn how to appreciate mother for all her sacrifice. Just because she yells at you and say bad things to you it doesn't mean that she doesn't love you. She love you a lot sister! If she didn't love you she would not raise you!" said Chan.
Rotha stood by the door listening to her son speaking about her past experience in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Rotha eyes were flooded with tears and pressing her hand against her mouth from making noises.
"How come you didn't tell me Chan?" asked Namol. "Because mom tell me not to tell you. She didn't want you to think a lot and interrupt your study!" replied Chan. "I don't believe you!" said Namol.
Rotha wipe her face and walked directly to her children and said, "let's go". Then suddenly Rotha vision became blurry and past out hitting her head directly toward the cement. "Mom!!" both Namol and Chan scream after seeing their mother falling to the ground. Rotha head was bleeding excessively therefore Namol and Chan carried their mother in the car and took her to the nearby hospital. Both Chan and Namol was crying and praying to Buddha for their mother okay. Namol heart felt so guilty and blame herself for being so stingy and selfish.
"Sister, I don't want mom to die. I need her, please tell me she will be okay. Please don't let her leave me...sister please..." cried Chan. Namol saw her brother was in great emotion and hug him. Chan tightly hug his sister and cried on her shoulder. When Rotha shift her body and coming to a stage of consciousness, both Chan and Namol rushed to their mother. "Mom are you okay? I'm so sorry..." said Namol as tears caressing her cheek hugging onto her mother body. Chan was crying and hugging his mother as well and promise his mother that he will be a good son. But Rotha wasn't answering her children.
Namol got up and realize that her mother would not wake up. She than asked her brother to tell every little story about her mother while she was at school. Chan than took Namol back ten years ago before coming to the United State.
