The Fires of Love
Too hot not to cool down eventually?
What stage is the fire of your love at?
A popular song lyric says that we should know that loves which are too hot must cool down.
The lyric is commonly accepted as true.
What are the "Fires of Love"?
The Roaring Bonfire Love
This is the "Fire of Love" which must cool down for the lyric to be true. It can be characterized as the love of awakened love, passion, can't-get-enough-time-together, and of innovative romance and longing. It is the subject of all the romance novels ever written, at least the ones which sell.
The Campfire Love
The bonfire has cooled down, but the romance and the joy of simply being together endures, holding hands is sought after, along with any physical contact and intimacy. It is true that these feelings will continue in loves other stages, but they are still heightened in this stage by the knowledge of what the roaring bonfire love has created.
The Fireplace Love
For couples fortunate enough to have children growing up, and for couples who have met and romanced later in life, this stage of love is enduring on the history and the acts of togetherness which continue to give a warm glow to the home and to the matured love which can have so much depth of understanding and deep attachment.
The Embers Love
Love in the absence of the loved one due to death or other permanent separation, even Alzheimer's or dementia, is characterized in this stage by lingering on the memories of one or more of the previous stages of love the individual has experienced and treasured. It can be the glowing embers of any of the other stages of love, and it can even lead into those other stages as the embers die down and a possible new "Fire of Love" is kindled.
Whatever "Fire of Love" you may be experiencing at this stage in your life, remember that fires depend upon fuel. The Bonfire Love, The Campfire Love, The Fireplace Love, even The Embers Love can be sustained and heightened by adding the kindling of romance, kindness, forgiveness, service, sharing, communication, and creation of the quality of loving memories which make each "Fire of Love" burn brighter and endure.
I suspect there is also The Sparkler Love, the stage of love where we are seeking love and let our sparkle and excitement speak volumes as we carry the small torch which says "I'm here. Can you find me? Can I myself offer the love which can make a difference in someone else's life and validate my own?" It need not be any of the other fires of love, for even a sparkler gives off a delightful brightness and light the whole world stands in need of, and waiting for.
Love resides in the heart and the memories.
