The Game ~ A Poem About Cheating

The Game

You've been staying out late

With someone who just can't wait

Now I know the truth

It came straight from you

I've seen it in your eyes

So don't tell me anymore lies

I can't take another night

And, babe, I've seen the light

There's no need to hide

'Cause I've still got my pride

You're so full of lust

But, I'm leaving you in the dust

Don't stare in disbelief

I know it's a relief

And don't you start begging

Thinking you'll come back in

I'm not your lovesick fool

Waiting in a puddle of drool

You think it's all a game

You really have no shame

You think that I will never know

But, hun, I'm not that slow

I guess I proved you wrong

That game didn't last too long

This has a definite flavour of AbBA, and I love them, so really enjoyed your catchy little poem. I'm sure it could be converted into a song with little problem.

Thanks, Vicki. This is by far one of the most interesting comments I've received lately. :)

I'm smiling. The flavor of youth in the poetry we write then is so precious, and so open!

I mentioned to you I have almost none of my early poems; only ones I remembered enough to write down years later after the early ones had been destroyed.

I just realized I have a couple more than the one I was thinking about when I said that. There's another one I put on my website's series called "Ah, Love". There are several more written later scattered over that 3-page series, as well as others' poetry. http://nellieanna.com/ahlove1.html

Ah, Nellieanna ~ If only you could read a few lines in the original last verse! Bahaha. It was a terrible verse and I had to fix it before I'd even post this one at all. I will likely post a few more before it is all said and done, save a few that I'd have to hurt you if you read them. hehe.

I will be sure to check out your page as soon as I get a chance.

Storms out west coming this way. Be careful tonight.

shanmarie,

Ahhh, it took me forever to get here, but boy oh boy if a million girls would want this puppy signed, sealed and delivered!!! Cheating or not, there are plenty of ways to assault the heart and the message in this is fitting! Awesome girly!

Cat, you always make me smile with your comments! I had someone cheat on me once, more or less, but this was just tongue and cheek. And posted just because you requested. Hehehe

You express it very well. I hate men who turn love into a game.

Thanks for reading, Gypsy. No, it most certainly is not a game. It should be an even more fulfilling aspect of friendship.

Good morning Shan Marie from Colin and his cats at lake erie time ontario canada 11:58am - Your beautiful but heartbreaking piece here reminds me of all of the great country songs which have tackled this subject. I am a big fan of Hank Williams Sr. and this one definitely makes me think of his songs.

I will read your awesome looking short story Love Triumphs - later on this afternoon and visit your country music blog again - right now I am just taking a break from cutting the grass - sending warm wishes to you from Colin and his cats

Your visits are always much appreciated, Colin. All that support even outside of HubPages - you rock, my friend!

Wow, comparisons to Abba and to Hank Williams Sr. for the same piece - who knew? Hehe. I need to learn how to play the guitar. I was supposed to write a song with this lovely Canadian lady, but that has yet to happen. My fingers are still crossed. If nothing else, you might enjoy her music - http://countrymusicnotes.blogspot.com/2012/11/phot...

Once is once too many, want I should beat him with my shoe? :D

Well, I'm sure glad you posted it and I'm honored that I was behind it... looking forward to the next one!

Hahaha! Nah - pretty sure he got many a beating over the years. ;) But, yeah- I don't recommend that a boy stand a girl up on her birthday to go out with another girl. Definitely not cool.

Well, the results as posted are fine.

If any would hurt to post, probably better to spare them! Those are judgments of the author's to make.

The situation was harrowing yesterday, wasn't it? But only one branch of a tree in the back suffered damage here. When it passed on, it was outta here! Today's weather is almost ideal!

shanmarie profile image

shanmarie 3 years ago from Texas Author

It certainly wouldn't hurt anything, but it certainly would've caused a good laugh at the dumbness of the lines. Obviously, I was either too young or too much in a hurry to come up with some better rhyming phrases.

The weather was actually not that bad here yesterday, just rainy and cold after the 20 degree temperature drop. The winds were much worse the other night when that storm south of us was collapsing, blowing out power transformers and shaking everything. Oh, and the creepy orange lightning was fun to watch.

Alright girl, but the offer stands if ever you should change your mind :D

What a turd!!! I'm hoping and guessing you've been blessed with a deserving love after that experience! You certainly deserve it!!! :-)

Turd! haha...I actually felt kind of sorry for him. He could look me in the eye and tell a lie point blank. It was when he was most vulnerable that he could not look me in the eye and I knew he was telling the truth. But, oh well, that was eons ago and a minor detail to my life!

Cantuhearmescream profile image

Cantuhearmescream 3 years ago from New York

You know what shan? People like that don't have luck in any real relationship and I suppose, for that I pity him. I hear ya... and you know what, cheating might be the ultimate lie... but I've been lied to and I can read a lie like nobody's business... and men think they're so good at it! Ha... I think it's in their blood! Lies suck... I say all the time, I'd rather have an ugly truth, than a pretty lie!

shanmarie profile image

shanmarie 3 years ago from Texas Author

No, I no he did not for years after the fact....but don't speak with him anymore, so who knows now. Maybe he finally changed. I really think he seriously had some kind of attachment disorder, and that is sad. He isn't a bad guy at heart. Can't say the same for others. I do HATE being lied to, though. It's the quickest way to lose my trust.

Cantuhearmescream profile image

Cantuhearmescream 3 years ago from New York

Attachment disorder = man ... okay, I'm trying to be funny, but I've seen this in a lot of guys... I think it's a defense mechanism. But while they're being defensive to save themselves from hurt, they're pushing away the very people who could take the hurt away for them. It is sad, but you know... some people find the right love and let their guard down... but I'm sure it takes learning from experiences alon the way.

Me too girl, me too!

Hey kitty-cat-twin-sister-born-three-months-apart-separated-at-birth, I was just reading the hub you shared about eye color. . . According to that, I have a devious streak! Bwahahaha, you better watch out! You keep saying what a beautiful soul I am, or some variation.

"Finally, 29% of research participants said they considered green eyes, the sexiest of all the different colors, and their owners to be creative, sexy -- and a bit devious."

Funny, too, I had makeup that played up my green eyes, but my son messed it up and threw my favorite lipstick in the toilet. Time to shop! Somebody got in trouble. . .LOL

But, I think my eyes kind of change somewhat...sometimes there is a bit more brown in them, and then much of the time, the green is all that is really noticeable.
