The Great Mouse Tail

The Great Mouse Tail

Said the one mouse to the other,

"Have you seen that mangy cat

Skulking round about the joint

All furry, fierce and fat?"

"I saw him just this morning

Prowling past our hole quite smug...

I wish that I could wipe that look

Right off his Cheshire mug!"

"That flea bag needs a lesson!

'Tis a lesson he will get!"

Said the one mouse to the other,

"Rue the day our whiskers met!"

They joined in whispered huddle,

A sneaky plot to hatch.

"We shall go a-fishing but

A feline we will catch!"

"We need a clever plan to teach

This bully of a cat

That in this house, who reigns supreme?

None 'cept the dirty rat!"

Said the one mouse to the other,

With an evil little smirk...

"I think I have the perfect thing,

Yes, I think this plan will work!"

"My second cousin thrice removed

Gave me a handy tip...

Its guaranteed to lure a cat,

They can't resist a nip!"

"Now, what if we secured a pinch

Of catnip in our trap,

And hid it just inside our hole...

A thieving paw to snap!"

"Catch his paw within its teeth

And how we'll see him roar!

Then, this fearsome ball of fur

Will trouble us no more!"

The mice snickered with pleasure

As they did a little dance...

"We will teach this fur ball...

Yes, we'll fix his fancy pants!"

Now as their luck would have it,

Since this brilliant scheme was rich,

The execution, with great ease

Went off, BUT with a hitch...

Said the one mouse to the other,

"This should surely be a show!

Let's educate this stupid cat...

We rule. He needs to know!"

They hid around the corner,

Close enough to watch and cheer...

Forgot to check the "de-tails",

Thus, neglecting to stand clear...

Alas, paw tripped the trigger,

The jaw sprang with a snap...

A startled feline paw was not

The only thing entrapped!

Beneath the bar, across the foot...

A twitchy piece of tail...

The master plan had backfired,

Then they all began to wail!

So from that fine day forward,

The trio knew with great chagrin

The cat had been defeated,

Alpha mice ruled roost and bin!

Said the one mouse to the other,

"Guess we showed that fur ball who

Runs the show in this house...

Now, help me find that Super Glue!"

Tonks, Thanks so much! It was a fun write, as well, and one of my favorite to share because it always gets a smile! It almost plays like Tom and Jerry in my head! Thanks again!

I read it to my housemate, and she says it's very adorable. And it made me laugh even though I knew what was coming this time. :)
