The Hand - A Poem

The Hand

Source

As a faint whisper

the hand sweeps through the darkness

by unceasing movements

with a sound like hissing snakes

ready for attack.

Gently and fumbling

the fragile fingers

land on the cold surface

and the blood turns into ice in the veins

and there's no return

when the cold spreads

and holds the hand in a grip

beyond the threshold of pain,

exceeds all reasonable

and the mind escapes.

How I Wrote This Poem

I actually wrote this poem in Swedish some time ago. This is the first time I've translated something I've written from Swedish to English. Ususally I write my poems in English. I put the Swedish original version on my blog. On the picture to the right you can see the original poem and the picture I took. It's my own hand on the photo.

Hi Bill, it's a little dark. I wrote a couple of other poems the same day I wrote this one, and they were a little sad and dark, too. I don't feel like that at all, though. :) Thank you!

Hi Gypsy Rose Lee, I could change could, LOL! I had spelled another word wrong at first, too. I guess I was a little stressed when I pubished the poem. Thank you so much!

Thank you Pamela, it's hard to translate a poem and manage to "translate" the feelings, too. You can't use exactly the same words...
