"The Illusion of Life"

This was not intentionally written for or inspired by the movie The Matrix, but turned out that way. Enjoy!

Source

"What is real? How do you define real? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then real is simply electrical

What if life is all an illusion?
Every day just programmed into our heads,
to make us act a certain way,
to say and do certain things,
to make us believe that this is who we are.
An infinite mind-fuck.

How do we break the barrier?
How do we find the true reality?
How do we escape this matrix of a life,
and find our purpose, our true calling?
How do we wake up from the "real world",
that is in reality, nothing but a dream?
Pleasure, pain, hunger, thirst, sight and smell,
all the senses are there,
but what makes them real?
How do we really know?

Seeing is believing,
but close your eyes and what do you see?
Anything that your mind can think of.
Does this make it real?
Or you just see a vast empty space,
darkness.
Walk into the darkness,
and perhaps you'll see the light...

Take the red pill.
Take a journey into your mind.

*What if everything in the world was all a part of one big mind? (God's mind?)
The world, the universe; and we are simply the thoughts.

I've read somewhere, ' If life was a dream, then dying must be the moment when you woke up in heaven.'

Great thought provoking hub.

Excellent Nikki. I have these thoughts so often... usually once a week or a fortnight.

You have put this so simply and elegantly. Well done (I hope that doesn't sound patronising), I really loved ti.

Patronizing? How? I'm glad you liked it and commented. Thanks very much. I often think about stuff like this too. And about the future and death and after death...the unknown is a scary place. I'm glad we can at least write about it sometimes to help us through the fears.

I am so glad we have become friends of hp Nikki. I wonder if you really realise how much you have encouraged me and made me do my best. There are a very few like you on HP, and I think you know one or two of them. I have very few “true” followers, but they are diamonds... You sparkle my friend.

And I don't need to tell you again how much I liked this hub. It really struck a chord.

Sounds like you took the red pill (the matrix)The terms, popularized in science fiction culture, derive from the 1999 film The Matrix. In the movie, the main character Neo is offered the choice between a red pill and a blue pill. The blue pill would allow him to remain in the fabricated reality of the Matrix. The red pill would lead to his escape from the Matrix and into the "real world".

Yep. I even say "Take the red pill" at the end of this poem. Take the red pill and open your eyes.

I loved the philosophical pondering on this poem. In Hindu and Buddhist world view, the world is an illusion.

Follow the white rabbit, In The Matrix there are several metaphysical "waking up" metaphors that reference the Wonderland stories. Early in the film, Neo is told to follow the "White Rabbit" and seconds later, his doorbell rings, and when he opens the door he finds a woman with a tattoo of a white rabbit on her shoulder.....and he's off like a Jack rabbit!

Hmm, interesting...this is something we could ponder on for a lifetime and never know the answer. Thanks for stopping by Vinaya.

Yep perhaps the white rabbit is on to something, he can take me to wonderland anytime, sounds like a marvelous place full of wonder and adventure, or maybe this is wonderland, we just need to open our eyes and our minds to see it. We are blinded by the rules and laws of society and held back by the demands of every day life to work and eat and sleep and use the bathroom, we are programmed internally like robots we do all these things and more never getting to where we truly want to be. we strive to succeed never taking the time to appreciate the beauty around us, never exploring this wonderland right in our own backyards let alone around the world or we are held down by the lack of means, money, the root of all our downfall

Your a poet and a philosopher, I like the way you think, your previous comment is something I've wondered about myself personally, you have an inquisitive mind and a practical yet pragmatic approach to life's many mysteries, keep thinking outside the box maybe you'll inspire other's to evaluate and conclude that you do indeed have a valid point. I've always maintained "fact is much stranger than "fiction" yet these days the line between them is well blurred.

Thanks so much Mark for your comment. Hmm..me a philosopher? You make me sound so smart :) lol Yes fact can be very very strange, and fact is there's so much out there we have yet to discover. So much we fear just because its different, and new, change can be scary but also exciting and much needed. Most of us need to change our way of thinking about things.

Ask some Veterans of Vietnam about the "matrix". Ask those who are alive, aware, and still trying to defend "valor". "Hold this ground!" Yes, we will fight to the death or worse - again. But are we fighting for true democracy? We fought for what doesn't exist. What exists is polite society that we are exempt from. Oops, "from which we are exempt". We must have the appropriate grammar should we be taken seriously. Great hub!
