The Last Lines of a Poet.....Ahorseback

I began a journey a few short years ago
and I must say ....I have returned
For once in my constantly lost and yearning life ..
......I'm no longer concerned

It happened one day on a road so lightly
traveled .....I came upon unmarked crossroads
Do I turn right ....left ......or go along as before
and then all at once .... emotional implodes

In a trance I sat and listened for some
words from above perhaps
Or a whisper of wind to tell me.......
where I stood in the maps

Long .....long after the answers escaped me
I was awakened .....by voices unheard
Instead of yearning for answers in faces or places ........
I'll turn my emotions to words

But now and again ....looking back
I never left that crossroad at all
As I sit pen in hand .........in the silence.....
no words will come in recall

Will he throw the pen in anger or burn
the poetry like the oil paintings before
Or perhaps he'll turn back onto the highway
and just drive .....writing never more

What do we do when no words come to the paper..... Or no image forms on the canvas Where do we go when the highways just ends ......or the finish line is lost Or what to do with the camera when the darkness closes in..........do we just move on into the tomorrows........
what do we do now....... what do we do now.......

This probably speaks for many, many, more writers (not just poets) than its author may realize. My reaction to it has been to think that one should tuck that pen into one's shirt pocket, and close to the heart, for safekeeping, and sit down on the side of the road for awhile. One of two things will most likely happen: 1) Words will start to emerge again, or 2) the keeper of that pen will find a way to pave new road that leads to where he needs to be.

This is very profound..If I had not retired I believe I would not be writing now..having new dreams and fear at the same time..loving something so much but fearful of losing what I have found..You will never lose words or thoughts..it is deep within your gifted heart..but I do believe in the quiet times when words do not come..we listen, and that is time we give to others so that they will be encouraged.

Love this so much, Up and beautiful..

We just keep on yearning until it happens. May every dream come true for us all.

I think we go through phases of creativity, and when that moment arrives when our creativity eludes us we must embrace it, our mind needs the break. Don't fight it, let it run its course for when the flood gates open, often times our work is the best we've ever done.

I believe that you, personally, are just too prolific to ever suffer from a loss of words or feelings for too long a period, but either you actually hit that invisible wall at some point or your imagination is just so vivid (more likely) that you can describe a fear so perfectly. Truly an intriguing read.

I rarely sit down to write. I run to my computer because the words are coming and I am afraid I will lose them. When inspiration seems to have left me I dance. I go out into the world and let it have its way with me. Then I run back to my computer before its too late. You what they say about a watched pot...

We could never turn another way on the highway, Writing is in our blood. Sometimes it gets clogged, but soon the vein opens and a new thought springs forth. I love this, another, "what if?"

I believe writing in any form comes from your inspiration and your muse.

It is almost as if one second you are a dead human being blind to the world and suddenly some form of a miraculous magic converts you into the writer/poet/(insert artist here)...

When ever I get writer/poet's block; I never obsess about it. I simply focus on other things and let it come to me in time because I truly believe any form of gift is a miracle that you are blessed with.

No, i've only been writing a little over a year. I never, ever thought of writing anything. When i retired from nursing, a friend invited me to join Hubpages, saying, " You might like it. " When i look back at my first Hubs, i'm amazed anyone would want to read them, but it grabbed me and i've found so much joy in poetry. Thank you for asking. How about you, have you been writing long?

Smiles

Dear horseback, I am sure that you will keep writing because it is your form of self expression - a powerful tool. The power behind your poems - the few I have read is awesome, you are hooked on to it and there is no turning back for you.. or that is what I think :) Hope you stay here for a long time to come.

A short vacation where your words are in your eyes, not on the paper, and you will find that that pen tucked into your pocket, close to your heart, will be exploding! :) I agree with the rest - you have too much to give to just stop. Give yourself a break and not too long of one either. You will be missed!

Voted up and awesome! You do speak for so many of us.

Here is your smile from the other post I forgot to put it on.

:D

We all struggling with our writing, feeling like we will never write another word worth reading, but this is a deep soul searching write that proves with every great line our even our struggle is worthy of a beautiful poem such as this

I believe that you will always write , maybe struggling a little more here and there.

I found it dificult to write anything for a good few years , it was after I composed the book of Welsh poems in memory of my sister.

However after I joined Hubpages I haven't stopped and if I have had a spell of heavy writing I find writing another story on the Misfits or something similar is very de-stressing.

I hope that things carry on in this way for the forseeable future.

Again I loved this poem of yours and here's to many many more.

I also liked Lisa HWs comment at the start.

I am busy catching up with reading your and am enjoying them immenseley.

Take care

Eiddwen.

I love this line,

a whisper of wind to tell me.......

where I stood in the maps.

I have felt this way so often, yet never considered applying such words to the moment. Great job, Ms Poetry. Thank you.

Story Girl ! Thank you for understanding. Perhaps applying words to the feelings is where I come to really feel and understand the moments of which I write. Be well my friend!....Keep Smiling.

I understand this! I felt exactly that way after venting in my 50% unemployment poem. The words were raw and energized because within them, I laid down my anger. You keep smiling as well, horse woman!
