The Love of Yesterday

Love Changes-People Change-Times Change... Learning to change together can be a struggle.

If the past was beautiful and you were happy- don't try to live in that past (it no longer exists). Figure out today and tomorrow, together with some effort and all your love.

Teach me all that there is to love about you.

Send me a message and tell me who you are.
Tell me the lines that are sure to keep me charmed.

Send me a message and share with me your fears.
And tell me everything you thought you had forgotten over the years.

Talk to me like it was yesterday
And show me your heart.

Sit with me and ill listen,
Like I'm just now learning who you are.

Whisper when you are sweet-
and don't tell me the harshness of the truth.
Send me a message and tell me about you.

Tell me about your dreams-
Your hopes and what you want to be.
Send me a message and tell me what you think of me.

Hold my hand when we are close
Miss me when I'm gone
and when you think I'm mad at you-
Listen to our song.

Call to say you’re sorry-
And stumble on your words.
Send me a message
And show me when you are concerned.

Sit with me awhile-
And put a smile upon my face.
Tell me that I'm beautiful-
And how I always take your breath away.

Speak to me softly; when you know that I am sad
don’t raise your voice to me unless your intention is to make me mad.

Wait for me with flowers-
When you have no reason to.
Show me that you love me
And speak the words; I love you.

Yesterday was sweet.
What happened to today?
Why has it become so hard to speak the things we use to say?

Send me a message when you figure all this out.
Explain to me the things we say that make each of us scream & shout.

I want to know that you believe in me.
The way I believe in you.

Tell me how our love will never be a love that will break.
Tell me that our life together could never be a mistake.

Because even when love is older-
It should never ever fade.

How can we get back our love?
The love of yesterday.

In love you must keep learning as time changes people, situations, interests and dreams..

If you have ever felt like your relationship was missing something vital and is/was falling apart, you may have realized you no longer know the person who you are married to. Couples often get to a point in their romance/relationship that they believe they know everything about their spouse. When couples get to this point-they stop listening to continue to learn as time continues to change the needs of relationship as well as the interests and dreams of each individual, that have come to be over time.

The things that are done in the beginning of a relationship are necessary in order to find out if someone is right for us or better for someone else. When you find that your love and your relationship is struggling and grasping at air- STOP, and try to get to know your spouse again, but learn what is true now-not what was true when you initially met one another. For Love to Last- We Must Accept the Changes Time Brings to Our Lives and Continue to Grow Together and Learn About One Another Each and Every Day of the Relationship.

up & beautiful! Very well written and descriptive. Love needs to 'mature' as each of us mature...

Hey Holly, another great piece of writing. :) I was able to identify with much of what you say and I have come to understand that we, as individual are always changing, whether or not, we realize it. Yet, many people constantly say that "people don't change", which isn't true. People change in many aspects, some of their actions still seem or appear to not change, but that is because those actions have become instinctive and do not come from rationalized thought. You're a wonderful friend, an exceptionally smart woman, an incredibly beautiful lady, worthy of love and respect as you deserve. I certainly hope you get it. :) Voted up and marked as Awesome! :) Thank you again for sharing. :)

Cagsil,

Change is necessary, normal and unavoidable in a relationship and in life in general. People should expect and accept that this is the inevitable truth and work with the change rather than against it. Trying to keep hold of something that is no longer reality is going to doom your relationship. You must love a person for who they are today, not who they were yesterday or who you think they will be tomorrow. Thanks Cagsil for the comment and the encouragement. I appreciate your support in my writing :)

People change as time changes. It's dangerous for anyone to stick to the "niceties" he experienced with his object of love when it all started. Love is a difficult subject to define, but with empathy and sympathy, the partners in love can still keep their love relationship to a steady foothold, and prevent it from falling apart.

Empathy simply means, you go by the simple role of making your loved one happy- continuously discovering and understanding his needs that will make him happy. Sympathy means your feelings for the other. There are no hard and fast rules in making love relationship work to the end, but by keeping in step with change and adjustments, it will hold forever.

Beautiful poem to start this hub with and capped with the powerful sentence- " For Love To Last, We must Accept Change. . ." Up and Awesome!

Growing in a relationship is necessary and wonderfully rewarding, Holly. I've always been sorry to hear of a couple who 'drift apart,' which seems to imply that one member of the relationship is not willing to join the other in personal expansion. How sad it is.

Thanks for the lovely photos and poem, Holly, I'm glad you shared.

People of course change but so often for the better. A couple can change and grow together, offer each other a helping hand. That is the strength of true love. For love to last we must accept change - awesome. Great hub, definitely voting this up.

lorlie6,

hello ma'am...love is a struggle for many who are consumed with their own plans and lives to share it with another. we let hurt and other things control what we once felt and have lost. you are correct, it is so very sad when this happens. thanks for the comment :)

Yes this is a beautiful hub Holly. We have to adapt and grow into a relationship or how else are we to survive.

Beautiful words and photos as well. I loved it.

Hi, HC, very nice HUB. I was wondering if changing with the passage of time is really a good thing. I suppose, changing with time, causes more damage than good. Reflecting on my own life, I feel I have changed a lot, by letting go, and to me it seems, the more I return to my earlier self, the better the relation is.

I think the poem is very well written and an easy read. However, the little paragraph at the bottom I think is very naiive. I was in a 5 year relationship and everyone thought we were destined to be married. But I fell out of love with him. There wasn't a problem in our relationship we got on great, but we became like 2 room mates rather than a couple. I couldn't let it go on, I broke his heart, but we stayed friends. It's better to end it and be happy rather than try to fix something that might be unfixable. But I agree, if there is a chance, do something about it!

saket71,

I dont really think of change as being good or bad-it is inevitable, we all change because we grow as people through life and different situations and people we meet. As long as we stay true to ourselves and do not pretend to be someone to please another person, we can find happiness, if no where else within our souls. Thanks for the comment, and for the thought.

georgie98,

thanks for the comment, sorry to hear that your relationship didnt work out. Falling out of love with someone you are with is not what the poem was intended to represent. It is more about continuing to grow-learn about one another and accept the person who you are with for who they are now not who they were in the past. Some relationships dont work out-because you fall out of love, you change and grow to want different things, you harvest too much hurt or you just can no longer communicate. In love you do have to work at it and take the time to continue to know your spouse,, a relationship doesnt work just because you want it to-it takes effort from both people. If love is gone-it is gone...that is different that figuring out you no longer know an individual.

I do appreciate you taking the time to give me your feedback and for reading. I am sorry you were disappointed with the close of the hub though.

I loved the poem, I thought that was great and I got that it was about growing within a relationship.

I was just commenting on the bottom paragragh and explained about my 5 year relationship so you didn't think I wasn't aware of the situation occurring. It seemed a little bias. I thought there should've been a bit about people ending things if they need to, especially if you are going to point out it's worth saving a marriage/relationship. I just thought it was missing something I suppose.

But otherwise I really liked it. You have talent.

georgie98,

Thanks for the compliment. Perhaps a suggestion that when things are over they are over and there is no use in trying to hold on to something that no longer exists would be an appropriate addition to the poem. I will see what I can come up with to add to the close of the hub to make it more complete. Thanks for the suggestion-check back, and let me know what you think about what I will add.

H.C., you always have a way of expressing exactly what I'm feeling at the time.....yet much more eloquently then I can. You are so right - "When you find that your love and your relationship is struggling and grasping at air- STOP, and try to get to know your spouse again, but learn what is true now-not what was true when you initially met one another. For Love to Last- We Must Accept the Changes Time Brings to Our Lives and Continue to Grow Together and Learn About One Another Each and Every Day of the Relationship." This is so vital to a thriving and successful relationship. We have to be ready though, to be suprised at what we may learn.
