The Mighty Men of Sparta: The 300

King Leonidas of Sparta
The Mighty Men of Sparta: The 300
(Inspired by the movie "300")
Oh King Leonidas, thou have boldly taken
Onward to Thermopylae with your valiant men,
Out to meet King Xerxes of Persia
Did you miss your dulcinea?
Who hath patiently waited for thee?
Her indefatigable and relentless loyalty
She hath treaded on faithfully…
The hearth has gone cold so forlorn
Awaiting for your safety return
As fearless as thou be with your 300
Those Immortals you boldly faced
The battle was waged,
No retreat, no surrender the 300 yelled…
Protect Hellenes at all cost
Didn’t matter if all life would be lost
Until Ephialtes made ally with the enemy
And showed them another passage and trapped thee
Up to the last ounce of breath
You marched your life to death…
Did those you protect grieve over their loss?
Or is your life ephemeral you just toss?
But nay, they have trodden the path
You’ve paved for them as such
Formed an alliance, and geared for battle
And trampled on, your 300 became thousands
And fiercely protected the remaining lands
And led the Persians to its shaming debacle…
