The Misnomer of Awareness

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

Though morning brings renewed hope,

dusk marks lost opportunity,

and for all our dreams of want and security,

what ensues is often failure by our own hand.

How driven we are to succeed,

at any cost do we venture into life,

claiming what is ours, to be,

yet the door opens and closes by its own accord.

We follow a ragged path,

by sight and more often by accident,

unwilling to realise what can be,

beyond our viewpoint of want.

Like pieces of a puzzle we play with life,

one piece in focus, the rest beyond the periphery,

and what we claim as direction,

is more often default, from what we miss completely.

How random our awareness,

one tenth seen, the rest, the core irrelevant,

for we see so little, incapable of the true vista,

the pregnant possibilities a plenty.

Instead we cling to the fragments of dreams,

small steps into the unknown,

and feel we are in control, the pilot of life,

when in truth we are the pawns of our misguided arrogance.

Awareness can only ever be in the stillness of mind,

never in the pursuit of anything,

the pushing of will,

or the judgement of just reward.

awareness maximizes life and every experience within it.
