The Phone Rings
I know you keep calling
because you want me to forgive
and forget
decide it doesn’t matter
all the times you walked away
weren’t there to see me through
provide a hand
or word of encouragement.
You want me to dismiss
all the times
you begged and pleaded
for a second chance,
as if it all was a dream.
You want me to say
nevermind
I don’t remember
and it doesn’t matter
to a history
of meaningless words
and broken promises.
You want me to stay
stuck in time
waiting for you.
As I hear
the phone ring again,
I turn away.
For the words spoken
have never meant a thing,
so why bother
answering that line.
