The Police Helped To Dump The Body
Mary-Jane and I had been having continuous arguments throughout our failing relationship. She was much on the selfish side as she began to get quite greedy by demanding things which were way above my pay grade. She would constantly argue about me not doing enough in the home even though I was the only one bringing something to the table. I did not earn a high end salary as the shoe factory did not pay much to line workers. The little I received as compensation for those long hours is what is used buy food and pay the bills. There was nothing left on the books for recreation, to buy Mary-Jane a new shoes or anything like that. She grew very frustrated with our condition and intermittently got very disrespectful in her speech towards me. She would say some pretty hurtful things like. "You look like a bum. You have no ambition. You are a sorry excuse for a husband. You are so God damn pathetic." Most of the times when the argument developed it was because of her hurtful lips. I knew I wanted better for myself and her, but each passing day made me wonder about her love for me and why her words were so hateful. Sometimes when the arguments started I would simply step out of the house and go for a very long walk. I walked at least 5 nights out of every week. Things were not going well for me, I had a wife driving me crazy and there were rumors of the Shoe factory being moved to Taiwan to cut production cost and increase revenue. If this was true, this meant that massive job losses would be imminent and this was something that would devastate many families, including mine. Everyone hoped the rumors were just that rumors and nothing else. But there was no gratitude for the grateful as we were about to find out.
Rumors Turned Reality
About three months after the rumors circulated about the shoe factory closing and management dispelling the rumors, the factory closed down. They had already started a shoe factory in Taiwan which was running in conjunction withe the one in Tennessee. Workers were heartbroken as many had been working at that shoe factory for over 35 years. I remember distinctively all of us lined up while management made their last speech. The lies which spilled from their mouth was like poison. We all got an separation envelopes. The factory had paid us off and sent us home. I walked home that day with my mind trying to get out of the Maze. I was going home, I was going home to nothing, I was going home to a wife that hated me.
She Showed No Love
As I stepped inside I could smell the beautiful scent of apple pie being baked. As ruthless as her mouth was, she was a skilled cook and knew her way well around the kitchen. All I wanted now as a hug, a gentle kiss and a slice of apple pie. But things were not like that around here, I knew I had to tell her about the factory closing and me being laid off. I knew what would come next, the anger, the cursing and the disrespect. I saw her preparing a meal when I stepped in. She looked brisk, attentive and serious like always. I stopped and stared at her for a while before saying anything. "Mary-Jane, Mary-Jane, Mary-Jane?"
"What the hell is wrong with you John? Are you trying to wear out my God damn name?"
"I really need to speak with you Mary, I have something important to tell you."
"Not now, go wash up. Your pie is on the table and you can make your own frigging coffee"
"I got laid off Mary.........the factory is closed and moved to Taiwan."
"What the hell are you saying to me John? Are you telling me a sorry ass like you couldn't find a factory to work that was darn stationary and simply couldn't by a plane ticket and move to frigging Taiwan?"
"And now that you are broker than before, what do you expect me to do? How will I eat? John you are so God damn pathetic, Mother was right, I married a loser."
"Mary, please stop speaking to me like that, I am not a looser. How was I to know that the factory would pack and go?"
"That's the problem with you John, you are never man enough to admit to your stupid mistakes. You have no Job, no money and your ambition is as little as your D..."
"Mary please! What is wrong with you, you are my wife, you made a vow for better or worst. We can work it out together."
"We? Did you just say we? You must be dumber than I thought. I am not staying with a bum. I am going back to mother. When i made that stupid vow that was on the premises of thing you would do better. But I see you are an attraction to bankruptcy."
"Mary, please don't leave, I need you now more than ever."
"Sorry John...I have to. And I must tell you I haven't been truthful to you John. I have been seeing someone else."
"You...you what?"
"OK, Open your rabbit looking ears and listen. I...Have...Been...Seeing...Someone.."
"Mary, please Mary, don't say those things, I cannot manage you speaking like that."
Mary began to laugh her head off as I still did not come to grip as to what she was really saying. It really took a while for the whole situation to realign and settle in my confused brain. But the picture pieces soon came together. I had lost my job and my wife too.
I Snapped
She stood there with her hands on her hips with a smirk across her face chewing gum. I looked deep into her eyes and saw what I refused to see for all the years we were together. I saw selfishness, wickedness and hate. How did I not see this woman for who she really was? But love is a hell of a feeling. It will render you blind many times and make you accept and do some pretty stupid things. I did not know what to say to her. I turned away from her with tears running don my face with my fist clenched. After working like a dog at the factory, day in and day out to take care of her, she finally shows me who she really is.
"Are you crying John? Oh please turn around baby and let me see how ugly you look wailing."
she began to laugh loudly while clapping her hands. At that very point, the devil sent his spirit don on my and I suddenly snapped. I immediately turned to her and charged at her. She could see the intent in my eyes as I saw her make a few frigidity steps back way before falling to the ground. I held her down and placed her weak string nick in my large hands and began to strangle the life out of her. I held on and squeezed. She kicked, clawed and did everything in her power to escape. But I was a line worker, I was big and my hands were heavy, rough and firm. They were perfect for strangling. Pretty soon her witchly soul left her, she died with her eyes open. She deserving of that death. The witch had died and I was free, free from her hate, free from he filthy mouth, I was free for this moment.
The Police Helped Dump The Body
I knew it would make no sense skipping town and having the Law chase after me. I decided to simply walk into the police station and confess murder. The next morning I stepped in the police station and saw Sergeant Rickets. A nice officer who helped me out with cash and other stuff when my back was against the wall. Officer Jones was beside Rickets, he was a super cop too who the town liked really well. I stood there looking around thinking to myself how to approach this. Then I swallowed a huge mouthful of fear and bellowed out. "I KILLED MY WIFE." Things stood still for a while at the Station as everyone gave me a quick5 second glance and then went back to work. Then a group of officer, around six policemen formed a circle and began to discuss something I could not hear. I then shouted out again. "I Killed My Wife. What’s the matter with you cops? Aren't you going to arrest me?" Then one of the police from the group of six broke away from the group and quickly ushered me into a room of interrogation.
"John?" The Policeman called. "I don't want you to stress over your wife. Let me ask you a few questions."
When did you kill her?
"Yesterday."
"How did she die?"
"I strangled her?"
"Where is the body?"
"At home."
"OK John, Lets all go find your wife's body to verify your argument."
I lead the cops to my home and into the area where my wife had died. There she was, lying on the floor lifeless. The policemen started to whisper as they formed a next small circle. They were there for about ten minutes while whisperer flew from uniform to uniform. Then the sergeant turned around and and said, "John, we'll handle it." I had no idea what he meant when he said handle it. So I simply had to ask.
"What do you mean by "handle it" Mark?"
"Don't worry about your dead wife John, she was not exactly liked by the town, especially down at the station. She got three of my best cops indicted by Internal Affairs for things they never did. She poisoned Mrs. Corkys' little dog Pat because it barked at her. She caused Jessie to lose her work at the coffee shop saying that she spat in her coffee. She sent pictures to the mayors' wife with him having dinner dates and said he was cheating. She accused the pastor of molesting several young members of his congregation and the list goes on and on. As I stated at the beginning John, she was not exactly liked by the town."
I stood there confused scratching my head, here I was, a murderer. A man who snuffed out the life of his own wife, walked into a police station, confessed my crime and the cops tell me they will handle it! This was an opportunity I don't think many killers get. So I took it.
"Ok, Handle it."
The Cops Took Over
They then all went into the room where my beloved wife was, wrapped her into a sheet they took off the stinky bed and carried her body outside and placed it into the trunk of one of the cops' car.
"So what are you guys going to do with her?" I asked.
"Don't worry John, Listen. We were never here and if you ever mentioned what happened here tonight even in your sleep. I can guarantee that you and she will be seeing each other pretty soon. We like you John, we are doing you a huge favor because we don't want to see you go to jail. You helped build this town and you are a natural good man. Now your wife was the devil incarnate and you know that too. Why don't you come down to the station tomorrow and talk to me and let me hook you up with a friend of mine who may be able to give you a job. How does that sound?"
"I really would love to find a job. I really appreciate all that you are doing for me, it's just that my mind would not be settled if I did not know what you plan to do with her."
"Ok John, let me help settle your mind. Do you know that they are building a new plant about six miles from here down at the old miners well?"
"Yeah."
"Well, let's just say that she will be part of that foundation forever!
I stood there shaking my head. I could not believe what had unfolded and what was about to happen. The cops are helping to dump the body. They all went into their cars and drove off into the night's mist. The next day as promised I went down to the police station to get a link for a new Job. I was nervous as hell and guilt hugged me like a tree. To my surprise everyone was there working, laughing and drinking coffee as though nothing ever happened. I stood there for a while, looked around and then a broad smile came on my face as I began thinking.
"This town loves me. The cops protect me. My wicked wife is gone. There is possibilities for new beginnings. I will be getting a new job. And here I am, murdered my wife in cold blood and still free as an otter. I began to embrace things right there at that very moment. I accepted the guilt, I accepted the change, now it was time to start a new.
