The Neglected Little Child
Where Is Love?
Such a pretty little girl
She looks just like a doll
Such a pretty little girl
Just bet she has it all ~
What a sweet little child
So precious and so giving
No one would ever guess
She struggles to keep living ~
Such a talented little girl
With such a beautiful voice
Is she a loved little girl?
She never gets a choice~
Such a big wide smile
Yet she worries all the while
Is she good or is she bad?
She never shows she's really sad~
Her piano is her only friend
And always will be right to the end~
Such a stunning teenage girl
With beauty left to spare
So popular with all the kids
She doesn’t have a care~
“ I’m loved at last", she tells herself
I’ve waited for so long
But something doesn’t feel right
Love comes then soon it’s gone~
Such a pretty grown up woman
Doing as she chooses
Marrying one man, then another
And in the end, she loses~
Such a wise, silver-haired lady
Learning much throughout her years
Like learning to forgive herself
And working through her fears~
Today, the pretty little child
Who loved but could not win
Has learned the greatest lesson
Love comes from deep within~
I love the pretty little girl
With all my heart today
I love her strength and courage
And how she’s found her way~
I thank my Father up above
For showing her the way
I thank Him for the guidance
He gives her every day~
The love that she has yearned for
Was not so far away
It hovered right inside of her
and lives there to this day.

Where I Lived as a Child
Lynwood was called "The American City" at the time I lived there. I sang at various community functions as a child.
Finding Love Within
The greatest love of all...
This was not an easy poem to write. To reveal my difficult childhood is something I would prefer to keep to myself...and for most of my life, that is just what I've done.
A certain amount of "shame" and even guilt goes hand in hand with any kind of child abuse. If a child lives without feeling loved, they grow up believing they are un-lovable.
Unfortunately, any relationship is doomed before it begins. Self sabotage happens in such a way, it is hardly recognized.
"Infants are defenseless and must depend upon a caregiving adult for survival. It is in the context of this primary dependence, and the maternal response to this dependence, that a relationship develops. This attachment is crucial for survival." Dr. Bruce Perry
Children do not need "things", they need nurturing. They need time with parents. They need confirmation that they are OK people. They need to feel safe. Children need love.
The greatest love of all is the love you have inside. Share that love with everyone. But especially with the children.

April - Child Abuse Month
We are all involved in child abuse, whether we like it or not. If we witness the abuse of a child and do nothing, we are guilty. Any suspicious act, must be reported. It is our duty as a human being to protect, love and help a child that is a victim of this terrible crime... Audrey Kerr Hunt
Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of overcoming it. ~ Helen Keller
Child abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime. ~ Herbert Ward
It's important to talk about it. You raise awareness. But you can also prevent it (child abuse) by not letting it be a secret. ~ Chris Witty
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect, and to create support for the children and families of child abuse.
