Where Is Love?

Such a pretty little girl

She looks just like a doll

Such a pretty little girl

Just bet she has it all ~

What a sweet little child

So precious and so giving

No one would ever guess

She struggles to keep living ~

Such a talented little girl

With such a beautiful voice

Is she a loved little girl?

She never gets a choice~

Such a big wide smile

Yet she worries all the while

Is she good or is she bad?

She never shows she's really sad~

Her piano is her only friend

And always will be right to the end~

Such a stunning teenage girl

With beauty left to spare

So popular with all the kids

She doesn’t have a care~

“ I’m loved at last", she tells herself

I’ve waited for so long

But something doesn’t feel right

Love comes then soon it’s gone~

Such a pretty grown up woman

Doing as she chooses

Marrying one man, then another

And in the end, she loses~

Such a wise, silver-haired lady

Learning much throughout her years

Like learning to forgive herself

And working through her fears~

Today, the pretty little child

Who loved but could not win

Has learned the greatest lesson

Love comes from deep within~

I love the pretty little girl

With all my heart today

I love her strength and courage

And how she’s found her way~

I thank my Father up above

For showing her the way

I thank Him for the guidance

He gives her every day~

The love that she has yearned for

Was not so far away

It hovered right inside of her

and lives there to this day.

Where I Lived as a Child

Finding Love Within

The greatest love is the love you have for yourself. Share this love with everyone, especially the children.
The greatest love is the love you have for yourself. Share this love with everyone, especially the children. | Source

The greatest love of all...

This was not an easy poem to write. To reveal my difficult childhood is something I would prefer to keep to myself...and for most of my life, that is just what I've done.

A certain amount of "shame" and even guilt goes hand in hand with any kind of child abuse. If a child lives without feeling loved, they grow up believing they are un-lovable.

Unfortunately, any relationship is doomed before it begins. Self sabotage happens in such a way, it is hardly recognized.

"Infants are defenseless and must depend upon a caregiving adult for survival. It is in the context of this primary dependence, and the maternal response to this dependence, that a relationship develops. This attachment is crucial for survival." Dr. Bruce Perry

Children do not need "things", they need nurturing. They need time with parents. They need confirmation that they are OK people. They need to feel safe. Children need love.

The greatest love of all is the love you have inside. Share that love with everyone. But especially with the children.

April - Child Abuse Month

We are all involved in child abuse, whether we like it or not. If we witness the abuse of a child and do nothing, we are guilty. Any suspicious act, must be reported. It is our duty as a human being to protect, love and help a child that is a victim of this terrible crime...  Audrey Kerr Hunt

Although the world is full of suffering, it is full also of overcoming it. ~ Helen Keller

Child abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime. ~ Herbert Ward

It's important to talk about it. You raise awareness. But you can also prevent it (child abuse) by not letting it be a secret. ~ Chris Witty

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect, and to create support for the children and families of child abuse.

I grew up as a boy living with abuse, with 5 sisters being treated poorly by men in my mother's life. Dear Mom's only way to survive back then and protect her children was to take on men who put a pay check on the table, however it came at a price that was costly to me and my dear sisters.

Abuse is rampant in the world, it has to stop, the abusers must be pointed out for their crimes against children and punished accordingly. Thank you for also having the courage to show us this beautiful, pretty little child still in your heart. peace and hugs to you from the Saddlerider. Blessings

Dear Audrey,

I'm so glad I popped over to read you tonight! Thank you for sharing your story here. You really are amazing! I just want to reach right through these pages and hug you every time I see your smile!

Life is truly in the journey, though a child knows only Love in *THIS* moment. We can ALL ease the suffering of a child, if only we would simply ~ Open Our Eyes, Mouths and Hearts and not be afraid to say, "Enough!"

Love your message of Self-Love!

Love the little girl inside you!

Love, Scarlett

This was so lovely and true. The path to self-love, self acceptance and truly feeling God's love for us, can be long and filled with pain but as adults we can finally give ourselves the love that was always hidden deep within and that is such an empowering and freeing experience that once realized, remains forevermore.

Am voting this hub up, useful, beautiful, awesome and interesting.

What a beautiful poem, Audrey. I wasn't aware that April is child abuse awareness month...thank you for bringing that to our attention.

Happyboomernurse ~ Please accept my apology for the late reply. Not sure what happened but I'm so glad to find your comments now. And what lovely comments they are! Every single word is well put and so true. With some of us it may take a life-time to feel and realize the self-love and acceptance we long for. And yes, it is so empowering and wonderful. Like a bird set free of it's cage. Thank you my sweet friend. Appreciate the vote up and all the buttons too.

Denise - I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. Thank you for liking my poem. It means so much to me. And big hugs back to you!

wellsjsam - I so appreciate your beautiful comments. Children deserve to be safe and protected. They are precious and innocent. I am very glad that you have healed with God's help. My own healing also came through God and I am so very grateful. Blessings to you.
