The Secret - Does it really exist?

What is "The Secret"?

Now before you start reading this hub, you should know what actually is "The Secret" (if you don't already know it)? According to Wikipedia, - "The Secret is a best-selling 2006 self-help book written by Rhonda Byrne, based on the earlier film of the same name. It is based on the law of attraction and claims that positive thinking can create life-changing results such as increased wealth, health, and happiness."

Who I am?

I am a simple middle class boy from a small town of India. I am an engineering student and an aspiring rock musician. Now, here I would like to point out one thing from the above two sentences that I wrote here. First, when you’re talking about India and in that too, a small Indian town, you should not imagine the scene of rock music, because in India, and especially in the suburbs, western-rock music does not exist yet! Or if it does, then probably it’s still in its very initial stage. Then how did I come to indulge myself in rock music, even after being a ‘small town boy’? Isn’t it an Interesting question? Maybe it was in my fate. Maybe I was destined to do so. Or, maybe I was strong determined to become one such musician from the very first day I listened to the faint traces of a guitar riff. Whatever it maybe, I am today what I wanted to be about some 5 years ago and I know, that I will be even a better and more famous musician in the next 5 years and everything else that I want to be.

My introduction to “The Secret”:-

I was really tensed that day, my parents had been scolding me for my grades in the final exams of my last year in school from over a month and I was even more tensed about getting admitted in a good engineering college. I wanted an escape from all my tensions and problems. I had lack of funds for my music, for my studies and everything around me had started to appear as if poaching on me and wanting to gulp me down in a single bite. I wanted to run far away from everything. My cell phone rang. I saw the screen; it was one of my friend’s. I picked up, “hello”. “Hey! What’s up bro?” she said. “Nothing much, just a..err..”. “Are you okay?”She replied. “Not completely” I said. “Okay come on line on fb. I’ve got to show you something really interesting”. She sounded really excited and she knew that I wasn’t okay. Fifteen minutes later, I saw her message in the chat box in my facebook account. She told me something I couldn’t believe at once. And of course my disbelief was pretty well justified. It seemed like those advertisements on the back of cheap comic books and magazines available at the bus stands and railway stations of India, which claim to make you a hypnotism master with strange and weird ornaments, rings, spells etc., with whom you can do whatever you want to. You can get enormous money, you can get your desired life partner, you can get your favorite thing etc. I told her I don’t believe on this and asked her not to disturb me for some time now. Just as I was about to say bye and log out from my account, a blue link popped up in the chat box. I waited as the chat box showed that she’s typing something on the other end. “Okay, don’t trust me, but please go and check this out bro. I just want to help you.” I opened the link in a new tab in my browser. The website was beautifully designed and looked really expensive and attractive. It read “The Secret”.

It had a video box in the center. I never knew that my clicking the play button was going to change my life forever. Click! Silence!

I watched the short video with my headphones plugged in. It dropped me dead into the greatest dilemma I ever had in my entire life. A part of me was happy as it had just been told that it can have whatever It wanted, while the other part of me was in strong disbelief of this thing.

How I got to know “The Secret”:-

Months passed after that incident, I came to Indore for my studies. Until now I didn’t have The Secret book or DVD or anything else, no matter how badly I wanted it. One fine sunny afternoon, while coming back from my Graphic Designing classes, I got a call from an old friend (Jayendra) of mine. He said he was in the city to meet me and some of our other friends. I had almost reached home when I got his call. I could have refused to go to meet him, because I had walked almost a mile from the taxi stand to my home in the heat ridden city and going to meet him meant walking back the same mile to the taxi stand (and few more to reach where he was)and spending ten rupees for the taxi fare. Moreover, I was starving because I didn’t have had anything to eat from the morning itself. But don’t know why, I readily accepted his invitation and went back as enthusiastically as if I had just stepped out of my house in the morning. I reached his place in half an hour, the same place where we friends used to sit for hours, years ago. We met each other and few more friends came. We sat there for a while and then we decided to go to another friend’s (Raj) house. Jayendra had not told him about his arrival in the city. We had planned to surprise him. So we did. While in Raj’s house, I caught a glimpse of some reddish brown book cover hiding under his abandoned mattresses. Out of curiosity, I went there and took out that thing. It read – “The Secret”.
When I first saw it, the first word that came to my mouth cannot be mentioned here. I was completely awestruck when Raj came smiling and said, “so, you too know about this”. I said, “man! It’s a treasure. I’ve been saving money for this from the past few months, but I don’t have it yet! You’re so lucky!”. “Take it if you want”, he said. “No way! It’s so expensive. And moreover, it belongs to you. I can’t! I just can’t. I…”. “Shut up! Just take it. I’ve read it all. Now it’s yours.” he said, winking at me. I thanked him and kept it inside my bag.

I had been saving money for the book, (as I mentioned above) but I still didn’t have it. I desperately wanted the book. I wanted to know “The Secret”. Right before the day I met my old friends, I was lying in my bed at night. It was about 1:00 a.m. at that moment. I had not been able to sleep properly at night from the last few months because of the past tensions and present problems. That night, I dreamt open-eyed, that I was having “The Secret” book in my hands and I was about to open it. And then I dreamt that my tensions and problems came to an end and everything became alright. I dreamt that I was happy. What happened the next day, I’ve already mentioned above.

I didn’t realize this thing for sometime after I came home and started reading the book. But then I felt something strange. I started trying to recall and connect everything, because everything had happened so dramatically, that it wasn’t easy for me to gulp it down so easily, though here in words, it may not appear so strange or special. The conclusion that I came to, was – “The Secret” really worked! And I was awestruck once again.

Next part coming soon!

The "Secret" really isn't a secret. Many people know about it, but few people tap into the power that the secret possesses. I truly believe that if you imagine something happening in your life, then you can make it happen (providing that it is something that won't harm others). I'm glad you were able to get a copy of the book. I have read the book, seen the movie, and refer to the visualization tools found on the Secret's web site. There are some very powerful visual and audio tools to help keep you focused on your desired outcome. The website tools are free. By the way, this is an excellent hub. I really enjoyed your story.

Thanks MarleneB for this wonderful comment. You've pointed a very important thing, that 'one can get whatever he or she wants, given that the things doesn't harm others'. It is because power is both good and bad. And it needs to be used wisely. The Secret also gives us immense power, so there's a threat of it getting in the wrong hands.

And thank you sooo very much for telling about the audio visual tools on the site. I'll definitely try it, because the most difficult thing in the secret is to focus on the desired thing without getting your mind diverted towards negative thoughts. :D

And finally, thanks for taking time to read my story. I am really very glad to know that you liked it. :)
