The Small and Winding Path

Source

The winding path which leads,

Through the old woods,

Cuts between the trees at the bottom of

The small,

Grass covered hill.

Here is where,

The sleepy river bends,

Through the fields;

Passing by

The farmland as it does so.

Fat trout fill the waters.

Butterflies and dragonflies delicately fly past.

Otters and water voles populate the banks.

Bees hum a lazy drone.

It is quiet and restful by the river.

The trees either side,

Provide some protection from the midday sun.

In the very early morning and in the late afternoon,

Shy rabbits frolic and eat in the grass.

Deer can sometimes be spied in the old wood.

An appreciation of nature, so simple so beautiful. It calls to me to stay awhile and just rest the soul. I love this, voting up.

I love this poem I could just imagine being there. In fact you described the countryside around where I live.

I am so glad that you liked it Christin. You must be living in a wonderful place. I come from the city but I love the country the most. I have enjoyed many country walks alone and with others. With the right weather it is an absolute joy when you have the time. Thanks for commenting.
